Irons boss facing first big recruitment test

|

David Moyes is facing his first real recruitment test since becoming West Ham manager for the second time around!

And as things stand right now there remain worries as he bids to find a central defender and striker.

ExWHUemployee reminded us  of Moyes’s comments  of a couple of months back that he wanted to be involved in all recruitment matters. https://www.claretandhugh.info/moyes-on-irons-recruitment-shows-hes-in-charge/

Now with three weeks of the window left and a central defender and striker urgently need he appears to be a little under the cosh by declaring he can give no guarantees anyone will be signed.

Clearly there is probably not the money available that he would like and that’s a problem but beyond the top four  and those who are selling to buy – Villa and Saints – it’s the same story across the league.

Moyes has always been something of a dab hand in reaching into the Championship and obscure areas to come up with the goods and his recruitment methods are now facing a big test.

Let’s hope he has the answers we all want.Fingers crossed.

I believe the test is not with the manager. Moyes has clearly identified his targets. The test is with the board to deliver Moyes is targets, and so far they are failing.

    • Oldest argument in the world -there’s little money so the targets need to be with the budget

IMO if 35million for your number one striker target is not within budget, on the back of selling haller, and on our best season for decades, then the budget is too small, and the board need to sell up. As its not possible to take the club further. No one is expecting them to spend 100million, but realistically with the 25million from haller (which was promised to be added to transfer funds for replacement), we should be looking at a total budget of 60mil. If not then I believe their time is up. And they need to start actively trying to find buyers for the club, of cause we will need to wait for the correct buyer, but I believe they are out there. I don’t think PAI Capital are the ones, however at least this might pave the way for other potential investors to come forward.

All this FFP stuff is smoke and mirrors if the chairmen wanted to they could pay a significant fee for a player, can understand running the club sensibly from a financial perspective but when you have the opportunity to push on, then it’s time to open up and match all the promises like Champions League with actions. There is a lot of silence in the actions so far.
