Irons learn Conference League opponents

|

West Ham are set to play the winners of the Europa Conference League tie between Viborg FF and B36 Torshavn in the final play-off round.

The Hammers need to win the play-off in order to reach the group stages.

The Irons will subsequently travel to either Denmark to play Viborg in the second leg, or the Faroe Islands to face Torshavn.

The Hammers have been drawn as the home team so the first leg will take place at the London Stadium.

Viborg finished seventh in the Danish Super League last season, meaning they were top of the Relegation Group, while Torshavn are legitimate minnows.

They play in the Faroes and finished fifth last season, 27 points behind the eventual champions.

They are a semi-professional football club and have never actually played in the group stages of any European competition, instead usually being eliminated in the play-off rounds.

One would expect the Hammers to reach the groups. And at a canter too.

Looks like a great draw on paper, although I would have said that about Astra Gurgiu the last times we got them…
