West Ham’s hopes of snapping up Newcastle striker Dwight Gayle have been scuppered by the 31-year-old deciding to stay in the northeast.
The frontman is out of contract at the Magpies in June and is one of those the Irons had on a wanted list of possible back-up strikers.
But ClaretandHugh understands the former Peterborough United and Crystal Palace star has opted to sign a new deal over the next week or two and is now likely to end his career at the club.
A move for Bournemouth’s Josh King – as reported earlier – looks out of the question given his lack of playing time this season whilst Olivier Giroud”s Chelsea future remains uncertain.
King has played a full 90 minutes on only three occasions from eight appearances and remains without a goal for the Cherries.
Given that he would be looking for something close to £70,000 per week on what would probably a final contract in the game that can now be all but ruled out.
The hunt goes on!
King wants 70m£?
According to the Daily Mail that BFS wants King for WBA
Thank the footballing gods that Dwight won’t ever be wearing the Claret & Blue of West Ham…..
Why on earth were we even linked
If this Is our standard we may as well give up
It’s January!!!!! And he would have been an additional striker to Antonio and another they plan to buy in the summer. Who do you want Craig?
Dwight Gayle is an average championship player at best.
Lee Chapman, Bobby Gould, Liam Brady, Ted MacDougall, Stuart Pearson, Ian Wright, Teddy Sheringham, Les Ferdinand, Jimmy Greaves and quite a few others. They were great for us but I can’t see Dwight Gayle in anything like a similar light. Best off where he is.
COYI
The only reason king has only played 3 times this season is because Bournemouth are wrapping him up in cotton wool so he can be moved on in Jan, coupled with the fact he refused to sign a new deal, his appearances are nothing to do with his performances or form is just best for both parties he doesn’t play much.
