It’s official: Carroll and three others depart

|

Andy Carroll is on his way from West Ham along with Adrian, Samir Nasri and Toni Martinez.

The club officially announced the departures this afternoon via www.whufc.com and although not unexpected it remains a big moment in the career of Carroll in particular.

Still injured from the end of last season he is unlikely to be employed elsewhere until he has fully recovered although there have been many suggestions that America will be his final destination.

It means that in total the club will have around £200k a week wages to use as they bid to entice new players into the London Stadium.

Few will argue that Carroll should not have been released after his injury plagued Hammers career while Adrian has shown impeccable behaviour throughout his time with us.

The once promising Martinez has been a disappointment and Nasri had little chance of earning a new deal after remaining injured in a key part of the season.

Joint-Chairmen David Sullivan and David Gold thanked Carroll and Adrian for their service and wished them and the other departing players all the best for the future.

“Andy and Adrian have both been great servants to West Ham United throughout their time at the club and we thank them for their loyalty and commitment to the Claret and Blue cause,” they said.

“Both have provided us and our fellow supporters with some unforgettable moments, whether they were sensational scissor kicks and unstoppable headers in Andy’s case, or penalty saves and goals in Adrian’s.

“They can both be assured of warm welcomes whenever they return to London Stadium and we wish them, as well as Samir Nasri and the young players whose contracts are up this summer, the very best for their future careers.”
