Jenkinson comes under real threat

|

Tomkins2Carl Jenkinson’s position is under serious threat with club insiders backing James Tomkins to make the right back position his own.

The on-loan Arsenal defender – banned from yesterday’s game against Liverpool – would have seen Tomkins produce an outstanding performance  just as he did in the seasonal opener at the Emirates

Tomkins has consistently declared he will fight for his position in the team following the arrival of £8 million Angelo Ogbonna and has taken his chances with both hands when they have come this term.

One key insider told ClaretndHugh today: “It’s difficult to see how the manager changes the team from Liverpool. It’s the boss’ call of course but Carl could find it tough getting back into the side with James showing that sort of form.

“He’s been part of both defences which have looked so solid against two top teams whilst Crl has made a very uncertain start.

“He could be in for a decent run of games – current;y he looks the best right back at the club.”

i would play Tomkins against the bigger teams when we need to be more defensive and jenkinson against the smaller teams where we can afford to be much more attacking. Probably only a matter of time until We get injuries anyway. At least we know Tomkins can play at right back and do a good job. It’s like we have two options now one more attacking and one more defensive. It’s a nice problem to have. Far better than a choice between demel or obrien I know that much.

i would’nt,,,play him all the time,,,,we want to win games, not **** ball about,,,,,

  • IronsEssex says:

I said the other day on here he was the best RB we’ve had for ages, I don’t see why he didn’t stay in that position after arsenal game. People say he’s to defensive but in both games he’s played attacking roles well.

  • Muckracker says:

He has all the defensive attributes a right back needs. All he needs is to learn to cross the ball and he will be miles ahead of Jenko imo. He has potential to become the best right/wing back we have had for a while

  • Dainon says:

I would let him keep his place, Jenkinson has had 2 chances and failed to impress, Tonks has been sensational with his 2 chances

  • MyOldMan says:

Would definitely give him the nod for Newcastle. Be interested to see how he copes with players running at him with pace as neither Arsenal or Liverpool really targeted him down our right.

The whole team played better against arsenal and Liverpool. Look at cresswell he was useless against Bournemouth but good yesterday. Who is to say that in that Liverpool game where we were breaking with quick counter attacks jenkinson wouldn’t have been a better choice. He was great for us last season. I wouldn’t write him off after one bad game. We didn’t write cresswell off and two of the Bournemouth goals were his mistakes. That’s the difference between losing and winning the game. Having said that the advantage of Tomkins is that he can drop back at times and becomes almost a third centre back at times and when we’re under the cosh that works really well.

Well, I’ve seen Jenkinson against Leicester and Bournemouth this season and in both games he was cack!

  • johnham1 says:

Have I mentioned it that Jenks is not a good defender lol lol

  • markro says:

Tonks has done all that has been asked of him and more.

The “attacking full back” argument hasn’t worked so well for us at home so far.

  • Tucker b says:

Good on Tomkins, been a loyal hammer like Noble and plays with his heart on his sleave.

  • bubs says:

Should never be dropped just like Noble unless he deserves it,we need forwards to cross balls and get in the box and defenders to stop the other team scoring,
Tomorrow adds a threat at corners that Jenkinson does not he can’t take free kicks like Cresswell,
He is a good player but if Carroll is fit next week do we drop Sakho NO
Let Jenkinson win his place back learn his trade then go back and tell Wenger how much we taught him

  • Muckracker says:

Much better to develop our own Tonks for that position than develop Jenks for Wenger’s benefit, at our expense for that.

  • canchaz says:

If we win games with Tommo there, why are we worrying about the fact he’s not such an attacking RB as Jenkinson.
Time to worry about that if he goes off the boil, then He can be subbed by Jenks, so it’s not really a problem, as far as I can see.

  • johnboy says:

    Jenks to the bench !!
Tommo to keep the position for now,
Jenks will have to fight for it,
Bring our own through first and play jenks if needed ,
Agree with u muckracker , why bring on a gooner !!!?
Different if he didn’t sign new contract with the goons,
Should have left him there for someone else to be used for their benefit,
    Tommo for me !!

  • jonnyem1 says:

Jenks looked bad against Leicester and drunk against Bouremouth! 2 Starts 2 poor games. Tonks has done everything asked if him and will get better and better the more he is played. All day long Tonks deserves to keep his place, it’ll make Jenks pull his finger out and perform better when he’s next required too.

  • bubs says:

Win win for us,now I take back that we need a right back,
I believe Tomorrow could make this his place and even get in the England team Payet could teach him how to cross and Kouyate looked really comfortable along side him and Obiang
Looked the same covering Aron going forward,
But Liverpool are a poor side honest Mr Lawerson poor poor
