Jesse Lingard: The truth

|

By Sean Whetstone

Multiple reports that Jesse Lingard is close to re-joining West Ham appear to be premature this evening.

Claret and Hugh understands that while the door is still open for the free agent to be reunited with David Moyes there is nothing concrete at this stage of talks.

Both sources close to the club and Lingard’s camp have rejected reports today that the 29 year old is on the verge of signing a new deal with West Ham.

Wage demands are thought to remain the issue with the fact his representatives want more than any club is prepared to pay.

He is not in as strong a position as he thought he would be this summer and has faced disappointment in the responses he has received from multiple clubs.

David Moyes is known to remain a fan but for the former Manchester United to sign he and his agent will need to compromise on their current position.

I really do wish Moyes would get over his obcession with this mercenary, he is not the player he was & there is obviously more to it the fact that he could not get a start in an absolutely abismal Man Utd team last season, Moyes should relinquish his obcession & give Soucek the contract he deserves . Being held to ransom by Lingard for his ludicrous wage demands will not be good for the dressing room / team spirit in the forth coming season

how the hell is he a mercenary, he has only had one club the rest were loans early in his career except for us

For once I agree with Bella 100!
This long running saga with Lingard is leaving a bad taste with many fans judging by comments on social media. The lad is either stupid and/or badly advised as he has squandered the goodwill we had towards him and may well end up in the dole queue.

Lingard obviously fancied a long break, much like others am frustrated by this, if he does sign hopefully it was exactly what he needed and he will have a blinding season for us.

Is there any truth Sean in the rumours about left back David Raum, Rennes striker Martin Terrier and Luis Suarez ?

Would definitely be excited if we signed Raum and Terrier they both look top class

I understand the frustrations with this ongoing “saga”, but at the right price (wage) Jesse would be an excellent addition. He is 29, so has several good years in him still, is proven at this level, and must want to prove the doubters wrong.
Looking at the Man United team of the last 3-4 seasons, he must have wondered what the hell he had to do to break into the team. His short loan with us saw him break back into the England set up, not something a bit part player can do.
Jesse himself must be rightly cheesed off in that, what should be his best years, should have seen him earning the big money. Instead he’s been hung out to dry.
However, the reality he’s now facing is a choice; head abroad (USA) and chase the money he believes he’s worth. Or, understand that he has not been a regular for a while (except for his loan period with us), and that no PL team is going to offer stupid wages to someone who doesn’t have a track record of performing week in, week out.
If he does come to West Ham, I hope it’s not because Moyes has caved into demands for silly money. But I wouldn’t say no to Jesse being part of the squad otherwise.

I fully agree with most of the views already expressed and I’m sick to death of Lingard, his advisers and this continual ‘will he won’t he’ saga. He was with us the season before last, surely he knows whether he wants to join permanently or not by now.

His primary concern seems to be how much money he can make out of a deal, I’m sorry Gingham but that’s a mercenary, has nothing to do with the past or how long he’s been at Man U.

I’m sure he’s not the sort of individual we need in our dressing room.
