Tuchel explains Broja absence

|

Thomas Tuchel has explained why Armando Broja has left Chelsea’s pre-season tour.

The Albania international has been heavily linked with a potential move to the Hammers throughout the summer and boss David Moyes has absolutely placed him at the top of his wishlist as he looks for a new striker.

However, we were told this morning that the deal was not as advanced as is being reported elsewhere.

Broja has left Chelsea’s pre-season training camp in the United States but Tuchel insists the reasoning is not to finalise a transfer, but is for him to receive treatment on his foot injury.

Speaking to journalists, as per the Evening Standard, the Blues boss said: “Armando had to travel home. He had a little accident in training. He twisted his ankle and he needs further examinations and treatment in London.

“It did not make sense to just have him as an additional player because we need all capacities of treatment for the guys who are actually fit and on the pitch so the best way for him to get the best treatment and as soon as possible back on the pitch was to leave for London.”

It remains to be seen if Chelsea will be willing to countenance his exit at this point.

Broja was meant to be given the chance to prove himself throughout pre-season but he may not get the chance due to his injury issues.
