The players that are missing from the 47 man Europa League squad are possibly of more interest than those who are not.
Doneil Henry and Darren Randolph are absent because they signed pre-contracts to join West Ham on 1st July so were not eligible for inclusion in the Europa League A list 25 man squad which needed to be submitted by 23rd June.
Last week Henry told WHUFC.com he was ready to make up for lost time adding “Especially with the European competition this season, there will be a lot of games so everybody needs to get their fitness in and maintain it throughout the season. It’s going to be a long season and we’re going to need the full squad.”
Maybe the most notable absentee is Modibo Maiga although Claret and Hugh have since learned his loan with Metz doesn’t finish until tomorrow (30th June) so he could not technically be included in the squad either.
A West Ham insider updated us after we published the article early this morning telling us:
“Maiga’s loan with FC Metz does not expire until 30 June.As you correctly note, Darren Randolph and Stephen Hendrie will not technically sign for the club until 1 July.”
Just one week ago David Gold suggested Maiga would get a chance saying on twitter “Maiga is in the pre-season squad. It’s up to him and Slaven to decide what will happen. He will get his chance”
UEFA rules allow one addition player to be added to the squad up to 24 hours before kick off on Thursday so we may yet see Randolph, Henry or Payet included. West Ham will be able to submit a new squad list for the second qualifying round before the 11th July.
I thought Henry had been ours for quite a while and if he wasn’t how did we loan him to Blackburn? As for Maiga kind of looks like the writings on the wall I shall await GW looking in his tea leaves
Actually you raise a good point there, maybe he has another loan deal setup too although he is injured at the moment

You win some you lose some when you take a chance on relative unknowns from France. Maiga hasn’t worked out and we need to move him on.

Is the reason for the absence of Henry and Maiga because their loan agreement runs until the 30th June?
Usually the loan deals finish close to the end of the season. Loaning clubs don’t want to pay for wages in closed season. I think Metz were paying £6k per week towards Maiga’s wages
I thought both loan deals were shorter and Henry’s was stopped due to injury but you could be right fob,it’d be an explanation. Still we should have enough in 47 to get through the first round lol

Dont know the ins & outs of the Maiga situation but i certainly aint going to be losing any sleep over the fact he aint in the squad.Sooner he is sold or sent back on loan the better.Maybe then it wont have people dreaming of him suddenly becoming a superstar under Slav.It aint ever going to happen.He was a shocking transfer 😉
According to the Europa Squad List that was provided earlier on this site, Doneil Henry has been given the No 25 shirt so why in the last paragraph does it state that he, Randolph or Payet, may be added 24 hours before the kickoff on Thursday or did you mean Hendrie.
