Marseille agree contract with Payet

|

headlineFrench newspaper L’Equipe are carrying a front page headline that Marseille have reached a contract agreement with Dimi Payet and his advisors to re-join his former team. The report says it is now up to Marseille to agree a transfer fee with West Ham.

Payet has been privately citing personal reasons for wanting to return to France and unconfirmed reports reached ClaretandHugh this evening that his family have already returned to France.

Marseille sold Payet to West Ham for £10.7m in 2015 and they have thought to have offered £19.1m plus a £2.5m Champions league bonus. The French Ligue 1 side are rumoured to be reluctantly prepared to increase their offer up to £3om but West Ham will refuse to sell their star player on the cheap. If the Hammers cannot change the mind of the 29 year old French man they will seek to cash in but will want bids closer to £4om for them to reverse their decision to make Payet play with the Under 23 squad for the remainder of the season.

Clearly Payet has no permission to speak to Marseille at this time from the club so whether this is fake news as Donald Trump would call it or the latest act of defiance from the player time will only tell.

  • master says:

Surely not, as he has no permission from the club (hopefully). That would amount to blatant tapping up which I’m sure isn’t allowed.

  • Radai Lama..Out of contract & available says:

I was just reading an article in a newspaper,i make the writer spot on lol..

Dimitri Payet should be left to rot for the rest of the season by West Ham. And whoever then signs him in the summer had better beware – if the going gets tough, he will selfishly and arrogantly turn his back on his club and his team-mates, just as he has done in east London.

  • cas_blue says:

I’m for keeping him until the summer. His contract is so long it won’t affect the price tag. I know the poll says overwhelmingly to sell him but people are angry and the best thing to do is let the dust settle for a few days and think rationally about the whole situation.

  • noaksey1 says:

How about the others use this type of action to move clubs-Antonio could go to Chelsea,Cresswell to Liverpool,Ogbonna back to Italy,Lanzini to Argentina. This precedent could kill the premiership, although I believe that most other players are professional in their conduct and attitude, unlike this petulant sulking child.

  • Ray1962 says:

how the hell can he be allowed to agree a contract without west hams permission? i really hope the board stick to there guns on this. Sell him yes but never on the cheap make the bast***s pay they have constructed this and so should be made to pay bid time for it. i also hope the board realise in future contracts we are protected from stuff like this. if he has moved his family back there then he knows the deal is done but hopefully west ham stand big on this one

  • kevin says:

Shouldn’t be allowed anywhere near the training ground and as far away as possible from the reserve team . Refusal to play is nothing short of Betrayal & Treachary . It was starting to look as if he wanted away as soon as he came back from the euroes . The Premiership should make a mandatory clause in any contract that would have some effect regarding players like Payet ( who we haven’t got ) who don’t feel committed to Thier extremely lucrative deals for kicking a football about .
But there must surely be something else going on for this to happen . Maybe he’s just missing the Snails ; he’s been playing like one long enough .

  • kevin says:

It could actually have a positive impact . Maybe some players will see a opportunity to enhance Thier reputations and career . With no Payet it will provide a hole for an ambitious player or players .
    Think Positive .

    • Paul says:

i agree Kevin. The players can now take more responsibility and be more creative not taking the easy option of checking back and look for Payet.

  • slaven a laugh says:

Coming out with the truth about Payet trying to force a move was the only way the fans were going to accept his sale in the January window. So now the truth is out let’s sell him as quickly as possible and try and put an end to the whole miserable saga and the untold damage this is doing to our club and it’s reputation. Why is it always us with the negative headlines. Let’s not be the kind of club that holds its players prisoner. Like Tottenham with Madrid or Liverpool with Suarez. He says it’s for family reasons. Let him go home and join his family. Sell him and move on.

I’m afraid I have to disagree with you on this one. I firmly believe contracts are made to be respected, if not, why sign any ? I can understand the “homesick” side of things, but why wasn’t the family homesick at the beginning of 2016 ? And in the summer ? This is nonsense. Truth is it is more fun to be on the Mediterranean coast than trapped in the London fog. That said, London still is a fascinating city, and many would give an arm and leg to live and work in London. Let’s not forget either that it wasn’t a lifetime commitment. Compare Payet to De Gea, who had a firm offer from Real Madrid (a bit better than OM, you’ll acknowledge), but eventually had to stay in Manchester. He took it like a real pro and did not complaint or threaten Manure not to play or train again with them. And I have the feeling Manchester is much less interesting as a city than London. But these blokes are pros, and get very well paid to do their job. So Payet’s behaviour is inadmissible. And, as said elsewhere, it is not the first time he does this dirty trick. He is a repeat offender, which makes it even more inexcusable.

Second point, O.M. is not an exciting team right now. I saw them a couple of months ago when they played at Montpellier. They lost 3-1 and it could have been worse. No game plan, toothless in attack, horrible goalkeeper, and a coach apparently not knowing how to place players on the pitch. Hardly a real promise of top football.

Third point, if I am not mistaken, it is illegal for a club to approach a player without the employing club’s consent. If indeed a contract has been signed between Payet and O.M., the french club could be heavily fined.

Finally, I would suggest WHU take a look at Morgan Sanson. He plays for Montpellier and I thought he was great the game I went to see against O.M. Apparently he is beginning to seduce several clubs who want to sign him. Among which Marseille. Irony…

      • There is potentially more to the family moving back to France unconfirmed rumour than meets the eye but we are unable to repeat at this time. The claims are potentially libellous so we wouldn’t repeat them unless we had confirmation there were facts.

So many rumours fly around in these type of situations so we attempt to fact check as much as possible.

        • Long Fella says:

Any truth in the rumour he has been having an affair with a popcorn seller at the London Stadium?? It might explain why he is a fat ******* Lol

  • Paul says:

Sell him now while the iron is hot!! He is hot news and the price will rise! If we miss the transfer window them teams might change their mind and look elsewhere . He will be 30 and some and not played for half a season plus the break. The price will drop. Sell the guy for 30 million and that’s the end of it. The team can move on without him lingering in the background. If he refused to play for the first team i doubt he will turn up for the under 23’s LOL

    • Dunlopilo says:

I would not sell him to Marseille unless they come with a handsome amount of money. For instance 40 kilos. If not, it is a question of principle. Let Payet get punished for his unacceptable behaviour and be off the team completely. And at the end of the season, let’s see who comes in for him. The club needs to set an example. He wants to leave, fine, but the way he ties to force the club is the wrong way to do things. Amalfitano also tried to play divas with Bilic. Where is he now ? The fact that Payet is a much better player than his fellow citizen doesn’t mean anything. This is a collective sport. You don’t want to abide to group discipline ? you get severed, but don’t get to leave when, how and where YOU have decided to.

  • Ray1962 says:

Fact of the matter is he is not allowed to even speak to another club without West Hams permission let alone sign any contracts. so if the story is true then our club has a right to sue seeing as everyone else seems to think they can do one to us at any given time. its about time we did this to others it beggers belief we get screwed over again and again

  • John says:

I was thinking about this and we all know Payet came back from the euros with his head turned. He rejoined training late totally unfit after binging on KFC buckets and his heart wasn’t in at all. The summer transfer window closed at the end of August and the club could’ve sold him for £50/60M no question of that. But they didn’t because we are longer a selling club. Imagine the outrage on the AngryTillIDie site if the owners had sold him. But wouldn’t it have made sense really? They didn’t sell him to please the fans and now they’re getting stick because Payet is being disloyal and they’ll probably to. Sell him for £30M.

  • kennycandb says:

This is what I suggest should be done:-
    1. Stop paying his wages with immediate effect if he has indeed stated that he will not play for WHUFC again. He is effectively on strike and is therefore not fulfilling his contract and thereby not entitled to wages.
    2. Place him immediately on the transfer list at £38mil minimum and non-negotiable.
    3. Only agree a player part exchange if it is a player we have identified as a potential recruit. Do not take an old “hasbeen”.
    4. Only allow him back into the fold after training trials show 100% attitude and commitment towards our club and only if we cannot sell him. This should be a last resort.
I believe that it is because of Payet and his poor attitude towards defensive duties that we have seen Cressie lose his form so badly this season – another reason I would not be sorry to see the back of this French prima donna. I also agree with earlier comments that we should, in the meanwhile, not let him anywhere near the playing squad at any age group. One bad apple can turn the rest bad.
Harsh but to my mind necessary. Only by doing this will we reinforce that we are not a selling club and that we sell on our terms only. Come on the Daves, show some fight and backbone.

  • sleepswithdafishes says:

You’re right about Cressy. Payet has been noticably absent at times when Cressy has gone forwards, where last season he was there to help work it up the left flank.

The problem I see is if we keep him then he infects the rest of the French speaking group, but if we sell him, then the others could see that to go on strike works very nicely ty, when they want away quickly.
I still lean towards selling him sooner rather than later.

    • Colin Irons says:

The difference as i see it Sleepy is that he can go on strike knowing there is a fair chance we will cash in because of his significant worth.Where as most of the rest of our squad do not have any significant market value so we could easily afford to let them rot without it really hitting the club hard in the pocket.
This strike/throwing the toys out of the pram way of going can only work for some players to get what they want, usually the ones with a high market value.Only in my opinion of course.

      • sleepswithdafishes says:

You could be right Irons, and I hope so.
When I look at the others only Sahko has the temprement to copy him, but perhaps Fernandes could be niave enough to follow. I’m sure they all look up to him.
