Moyes delighted with Hammers debutant

|

David Moyes was left delighted with the performance of Oliver Scarles after the 16-year-old turned in a superb display against FCSB in the Europa Conference League.

The teenager is an England U17 international but had never played for the Irons prior to Thursday’s dead rubber against the Romanian side.

Pablo Fornals scored twice in the game, while Divin Mubama also got on the scoresheet with a deflected header.

But Scarles was one of the players to truly steal the show, enjoying an excellent performance in midfield, and he played a key role in the third goal.

His cross was palmed away by FCSB’s goalkeeper and Fornals smashed the rebound home.

Moyes was delighted for both Scarles and Mubama, as they came into the side and attempted to give the Hammers boss a headache ahead of this weekend’s Premier League clash with Crystal Palace.

Speaking after the game, as quoted by the Daily Mail, he said: “We were already qualified, but we came here for a difficult game with a lot of kids, so we should be really happy and grateful that the ‘Academy of Football’ is still supporting the first team.

“We could see from the first moment that Divin and Ollie were playing really well. We saw how Divin celebrated the goal, he was buzzing and his family will be buzzing at home.

“Ollie played a really good game as well. This academy never stops bringing players through

“Now the players who are here are not playing as much as we would like, but we came here to do our best. This was was our chance and it’s important for the other players to know we want to play just as much.”

Just curious, does anybody know if FCSB fielded a strong team? Or did they also throw in a few youngsters for this game?
