Moyes goes strong

West Ham have gone strong for the pre-season friendly against Brentford on Saturday.

The Irons are taking on Premier League opposition as they continue their preparation for the new season.

So it should be no surprise that David Moyes has decided to name a strong team that could easily play in the opening game of the season against Newcastle at St James’ Park.

Despite the loan signing of Alphonse Areola earlier this week, he has not made the squad, with Lukasz Fabianski in goal.

Ryan Fredericks, Issa Diop, Craig Dawson, Aaron Cresswell, and Ben Johnson make up the defence, with Manuel Lanzini, Conor Coventry, Said Benrahma and Pablo Fornals in midfield and Mikey Antonio up front.

Darren Randolph, David Martin, Frederik Alves, Jamal Baptiste, Keenan Forson, Mark Noble and Armstrong Oko-Flex make up the bench.

The Hammers will be out to continue their superb record in pre-season, with the club yet to taste defeat and beating Celtic 6-2 in their most recent outing.

  1. Delighted to see that Conor Coventry starts today. He is arguably the best prospect in our Academy, so it is good that Moyes has given him this opportunity to impress.

  2. Bowen not in squad?

    • Delighted with the strong squad for today and with the inclusion of Coventry. However,I expect that all the summer deals be quickly completed so that we can be quickly set for the new season.

  3. No news on Bowen not being in the squad? Assuming you are waiting for Ex to update later or for an article you can copy and paste

  4. I’ve seen the stories that Xande Silva is being moved on, but what’s happened to Mipo Odubeko ?? Has he injured himself, if not can’t be good that Martin is in the team for the second week running

  5. Bowen has a 5th metatarsal injury. It is not a break but requires rest and time. Was stamped on in training.

  6. I see from the official site that Bowen has a small knock

I would guess that Mipo Odubeko is injured as I think he is still only about 19 and he didn’t feature for the U23’s last night

  7. A worry which ever it is regarding Bowen. If he is injured, that’s not great just at the start of a new season. Especially as he has been our stand out pre-season player. And if he is not injured would suggest he is on the move to Liverpool.

  8. Likely starting 11 for St James park? So you’re not expecting Rice, Soucek or Coufal to be available?

    • Can’t see the word “likely” anywhere. Says “could easily”. I assume it’s inferring that this team is strong enough to play at Newcastle.
