Moyes hits back at his “dinosaur” critics

|

David Moyes has taken a mighty swipe at those who dubbed him a “dinosaur” on his return to West Ham.

The boss took a bashing from certain quarters on social media and – although it is early days – he could hardly have proved them much more wrong.

It understandably got well under his skin and asked the question about how he had felt in the face of such crude criticism he accused those saying it of “lacking intellect.”

He said: “I would think that someone who’s been a coach, qualified as a coach very young, someone who follows football, someone who watches and goes in learns and listens, thinks that we’ve not evolved and looking at what’s new, I feel more sad for the people who say that because it shows their lack of intellect, I think.

Ultimately as a football manager, you have to prove yourself and you have to show that you can do it. Some of the occasions, it’s not been as good as I’d like but I took on some difficult jobs.

I went to Real Sociedad, I don’t know there’s many other British managers who have been offered a job in one of the major leagues in one of the main countries.

I came back and took the Sunderland job which, if you look at it, it’s been incredibly difficult so you know just like anything else, sometimes you can try and do something but it doesn’t work so overall.

I’m in a really good place because I’ve got a brilliant bunch of lads. Even at the moment, they were disappointed that we didn’t play well enough in midweek and I can tell them that and let them know that I’m not accepting the standards, and they’ll go away, and they understand it. So I’m really pleased with the group of players I’ve got who have helped me greatly.

After several years of a dodgy defence and an inconsistent attack, when being an IRONS fan was testing on the blood pressure, I applaud David Moyes and what he is achieving. He is experienced, not out of touch.

I think that the criticisms of Moyes and lumping him together with BFS are incredibly shallow – Pelle played open football as in let WHU be open to be ripped apart by such great teams as Cardiff, even Huddersfield, Wimbledon and Oxford – and I did not find that enjoyable, so I can appreciate keeping it tight at the back even if we have less than 50% possession – well done to Moyes and long may it continue

I totally agree with Hammerpete. Look back over the last, say, 15 years. When have we ever been so consistent? When have we gone into games actually looking forward to playing, against ANY team? Ok, fair enough, we wouldn’t be West Ham if we didn’t make the odd narse-up, but overall we look like a happy, successful squad. How long since we’ve been able to say that?

If allowed, Moyes will continue to build on his success. Do I think we deserve to be in the to 6, no. We earned two points over the last two matches but got six.
Let Moyes shape the team over the next five years and we will be in the top six.
