David Moyes reckons “it could be argued” West Ham had the best January of any club in the Premier League .
He claims that was because we sold three players -Fonte, Sakho, and Ayew. made a profit and only brought in Jordan Hugill.
He ‘explained:’ You could say that was a risk, and if it hadn’t worked you could probably be critical of our January.
We tried to get one or two other players. It wasn’t for the want of trying. We ended up with less players, and the one thing we’re short of is numbers here. So you could argue we had the best January because we made a good profit and still stayed up!”
Pushed on his reasoning for the lack of signings he said: “I just think not all the signings go and improve your team. We had a really good January because we didn’t waste much money.
If anything we brought money in. The only ones we brought in were Mario and Hugill. Pat Evra was actually after the window.
You have to say Joao’s (Mario) has done well. It’s taken him a while to get up to speed in some of the games but overall he’s grown into it and played well in the majority of games he’s played.”
Of the game against Manchester United he said that Evra is in the squad, that Joe Hart is over an illness and that Chicharito has a problem with his fat pad on his knee.
He claimed that he was not influenced to play Hart because of his England position saying: “No, not at all. I spoke with Joe at different times and explained what I was feeling. I always felt that if Adrian did well he would stay in the goal.”
And he added he could like to have given Hugill a chance adding: “Maybe we will get him one. But there’s no guarantee, and the reason why is because I want to win the two games if I can.”
Is he saying we cant win with Hugill in the side? Why on earth did we buy the poor lad?
That is the $64m question Mooro. Who made that decision & why. The sale of Fonte, for all his shortcomings, left us desperately short at the back. So when Moyes says ‘if it hadn’t worked’ he means it didn’t work & we were left with the leakiest defence in the PL, but we got away with it. And saved a bit of cash. Music to the owners’ ears.
Mario was not bad to be fair. But that cannot be called a top window. I don’t mind Moyes tbh but this sends him down a few notches in my estimation. ….Bet he is drushed to hear that 😂😂
Or even crushed to hear that maybe.
To be fair, Rice may not have got into the team without fonte being sold off and we might be down.
master
maybe it might have worked out better as Cresswell would of not played as a center back and we would of not signed Evra. It still seems stupid to have sold Fonte or let Burke go on loan again
this again is why Moyes shouldn’t be here next year
Moyes managed Preston – has conections there and would know of him. I doubt whether anybody else did
He justifies the window by saying we stayed up and made a sizable profit. for that he can’t be faulted because it’s true.
On the other hand, if it had gone wrong ( by relegation ), then it would have been a disastrous window.
That’s why it’s a result driven game.
I think he is just saying that to appease the chairmen and be diplomatic, by saying we are short on numbers and we sold them I think he is saying that he would have liked to have signed more quality players. As we have stayed up whoever is manager next season will need to buy between 5 and 10 players for average players the price is 15m now so god knows how they are going to make those numbers work or in typical Wheeler Dealer style I think we all know how it will go.
