Moyes reflects on Aguerd performance

|

David Moyes was pleased with Nayef Aguerd’s performance against Leeds as the Hammers drew 2-2 at Elland Road.

The Irons went into the game desperate for a win, but were unable to pick up all three points on Yorkshire.

Leeds took the lead through Wilfried Gnonto but Lucas Paqueta equalised from the penalty spot, before Gianluca Scamacca handed the Irons the lead with a rasping drive from range.

Rodrigo ultimately equalised to earn Leeds a point, and the result has left the Hammers in trouble, with the club continuing to hover just above the relegation zone.

Aguerd, though, was a bright spot in defence, as he came back from his injuries sustained at the World Cup to once again bring some calm to the Hammers’ backline.

And Moyes was impressed with the Morocco international’s performance.

Quoted by Football.London, the Irons boss said: “Okay, I think he is a really talented footballer. Tonight wasn’t the easiest place to come and start but he got through it. He will get better the more games he gets in the Premier League.”

Moyes has also revealed that Kurt Zouma is slowly closing in on a return to fitness.

He added: “I don’t think he is too far away. He has been out on the grass quite a bit. He had a virus a week or two ago which has kept him back a week but we think he’s not too far away.”
