Moyes: “We need to make a lot of changes”

|

David Moyes was unhappy with last night’s performance against Glasgow Rangers and that this was the first pre-season game we have lost in two campaigns .

There is little question he had every right to feel that way after a display which left more ifs than buts from a team which is now just a couple of games away from the start of the season.

Pre-season is pre-season and it’s all about fitness but if we are being entirely honest we really needed to see more than we did last night against a pretty decent team.

Maybe had Mikey Antonio managed to convert an early chance it may have been different but apart from that the passing was often sloppy and there was little creativity out of midfield

Declan – yellow carded

And that Declan should have been yellow carded  in a game where nothing was at stake apart from pride and confidence was disappointing.

Afterwards – delivering his verdict on the game – Moyes told www.whufc.com: “It’s pre-season and we’re trying to get the players in the right condition, and we didn’t really look that way tonight.

Look, it was always going to be a difficult game, there’s no doubt about that, but I’m disappointed with a lot of elements of the game and things that we did.

Rangers looked better, quicker, sharper tonight. I think they looked sharper in their head as much as anything and they played better than we did.

We were slow to press, slow in our decision making, so I didn’t see it as being a good team performance at all tonight.

They’re a good side, but I thought the goals showed the other side to us too.

It’s not like us to defend the way we did, but that wasn’t the main reason. We didn’t show enough attacking purpose and when we had a couple of half-chances we didn’t take them.

Look, it’s a pre-season game, so hopefully we can get it out of the way and move on.

I hope it comes as a good thing having a wake-up call, but I thought it was a good pre-season last year when we won all the games.

You want to win the games and you want to go in [to the season] in good form. We certainly need to make a lot of changes and do something different, that’s for sure.”

Didn’t like what you saw David? and attacking wise not enough then do something about it mate we have been crying out for a proper striker for to long now so pull your finger out stop dithering and get on with your job….Other clubs seem to have no problem in finding there targets and signing them quick smart not us! and take a hint will you Soucek must not be sold there are a number of others who should be gone long before him.

Agree with Cleasm, go for Brereton-Diaz and also for Terrier from Rennes, Terrier is a proper finisher, with pace, great control, good at holding the ball up and bringing others into the game. Also get Onana he is just like Yaya Toure only a lot younger and even more physical, if you want pressing pay £40 – 50m he is better than Rice and Phillips and will eat up the opposition, as for Raum again a proper player, all the creative skills that Cresswell has and unlike Cressie he can defend so will save us goals against, this stuff isn’t rocket science, Broja isn’t being sold or loaned to us, Lingard is a joke who is playing the club, buy young hungry players that are either proven already or have room to grow more, Keane Lewis-Potter is another if he hasn’t been sold, a perfect replacement for Yarmolenko. If Flynn Downes establishes himself as a PL player I will be very surprised, won’t be the first time I am wrong but haven’t seen anything that gives me confidence he has the level of energy required to cope with a full season at high intensity, he will win a few challenges in midfield but much like Noble he reacts to danger rather than anticipates it so is left frequently out of position from what I have seen so far.

Can we now please get on and buy the Players that they have put on the list and don’t spare the money.

DM the master of the bleedin’ obvious lol. That being said, just because you make an offer for a player doesn’t mean they will sign right away. I keep seeing this notion that you just “buy” players, as if they have no choice in the matter. It may well be that Terrier and Laum are waiting to see all offers before committing to anything. As for Downes, he was often one of the best players in a Swansea shirt last year, bit too early to be writing him off. DM has indicated the difficulty in getting deals done. We’ve actually done around the same number of deals most clubs have, 4-5. However, come the end of the window, if the team hasn’t been properly strengthened, then it’s a failure on DM, and he will have to bear the consequences.

We approach the last week in July and Mr Moyes finally decided action is needed!! The plain fact is he hasn’t done enough to inject signings – surely they knew who they wanted? Forest have signed half a dozen, and probably Lingard too, Villa, Spuds, Newcastle all getting on with it. We need some serious dealing, or it’s going to be a long season of difficulty. Our players look physically and mentally off the pace – why?? And stop ejecting the young players!!!
