Xande Silva is just one reason why the Hammers should not be panicking their way into the January transfer window for a new striker.
With questions marks continuing to hover around Andy Carroll, the under 23 prospect caught the eye in a significant way against Birmingham City at the weekend.
Those who have not seen him at second string level – where he has already scored seven goals in an injury-interrupted season – cannot help but have been impressed by the £1.8 million summer signing.
He in no way looked out of place as he followed the likes of Declan and Grady from the academy ranks although obviously we can’t claim total credit for his development.
However, he has been brought through the academy with great care and looks ready made for a breakthrough as the season continues.
His control and confidence in trying his luck with shots – the first leading to the first goal – when the opportunity presented itself was impressive. Such was the level of performance it would be no surprise to see him involved on Saturday against the Gunners.
And speaking to www.whufc.com he commented: “I felt good. I have waited a long time for the opportunity, I spent a period on the side-lines with injury and have been working my way up to full fitness. I am happy with how I performed, I felt I showed my ability, and I am happy we won the game.
“I want to play regularly in the first team and do my best to continually be involved in first-team squads. I want to follow in the footsteps of Grady and Dec and win a regular space in the squad and the team.
They are both doing really well and I want to prove to the manager that I can continue to play at this level alongside them and the rest of the first-team.
“I am a new player here, I am very young and have a lot to learn. “Since I was young I have wanted to play in the Premier League and I am grateful to now be at West Ham and have that opportunity.”
Our Accadmy is second to none . If we are to build on our desire to be a big club then that’s the direction we need to follow . But in the meantime we need to stay mid-table and if possible higher . A reguvinated Man Utd along with some others are blocking our path .
Other Teams will get time telling injuries ; ours are on the road to recovery . Exciting and nervous times ahead for all of us .
Can we beat the Gunners ?? , you can’t ignore the fact that we are very capable of it .

In my opinion he is better than Perez and more suited to our style of play than Carroll. l really liked the idea of him and Arnie up top, with Anderson and Antonio on the wings with Rice and Snodgrass through the middle. I would have Silva in the match day squad ahead of Perez and Carroll. think its time to move on from Carroll as he is not the future.
