Now we should ALL be convinced by Moyes’ gutsy Irons

|

Match verdict by Hughie Southon

That took guts!

Even the previously unconvinced must now surely accept that everything David Moyes has told us about this squad is spot on

What we saw at Norwich showed us that the spirit, determination and downright courage in this Hammers squad is something that not even I as an old timer can remember.

To return from the dejection of losing a major cup semi final to destroy a Norwich team, poor though it was, is a great achievement and puts us back in the frame for a top six place.

The lads had that incentive following Brighton’s smashing of sad Manchester United yesterday and they lived up to themselves in full.

The equation is simple. If Palace can beat the Old Trafford team on the 22nd of the month and we win against City or Brighton, or of course both, it means we will be back in sixth spot and the Europa League.

A draw won’t be a disaster against City although we would need to overcome our Brighton bogey on the last day and given the attitude in this squad both results are possible.

City next weekend will be the last chance of most to see the Nobes farewell and he more than anyone will want to go out on a high. I believe if he gets on, he will be part of a team which will gain a draw.

West Ham today performed as big teams do – bouncing back from a horrible event to win a so important game.

Heartiest congratulations all round to Moysie, the lads and backroom team.

Now for a magnificent finish.

Lovely jubbly! Looking forward to City and Nobes farewell, and looking back on a season where we swaggered in Europe, shut up a lot of our doubters, and how quickly I got used to looking for us at the top end of the table, and how I’ve fretted about will we finish top 6, or horror, 8th!!! It’s good to be an Iron!

      Whats with the headline “Gutsy”………
For crying out load it was Norwich……..
      Not City………
      Not Liverpool
Time for Moyes to go , we can not let him stay for another transfer window……..
      Loo at his history…..
      Benrahma – Waste of money
      Vlasic – Waste of money
Sanctioning the sale of Haler alone should of got him sacked let alone the signings he has made

I am constantly astonished by the views of some on here who want Moyes gone. Let’s take a minute here and think.
    1. Leicester and West Ham went into the Europa League at the start of the season together – look at how their season panned out compared to us.
    2. We have maintained a presence in the European qualification places notwithstanding a squad significantly smaller in depth than the “big six” just above us and the number of games we’ve played
    3. You cannot underestimate what Moyes and his back room team have done in building a cameraderie and team spirit within the squad that I don’t think I see at any other premiership club at the moment (with the exception of maybe Brentford). The players all look as though they’d run through a brick wall for each other and play with a smile on their faces.
    4. Our player of the year looks like it’ll be between Dawson and Bowen – quite an achievement for both when Declan Rice is in your team putting in top performances week in week out
    5. We made progress in competing with the big six notably with defeating Liverpool and Chelsea at home

The future is bright – let’s run with it and see where it goes. We all agree the next two transfer windows are important and with Newcastle suddenly having a massive transfer budget next season may be even harder to compete at the top but why on gods green earth would you want Moyes out. It beggars belief.
