One more game before Boleyn Ground is demolished

|

The New West stand at West Ham Utd.The demolition of the Boleyn Ground is scheduled to begin next Wednesday 28th September but not before one last charity tournament is played on Tuesday 27th September.

Football will be played one last time next Tuesday when Barratt London will host a special charity tournament.

A range of companies involved in the redevelopment of the site will be donating funds to charity in order to participate in this ‘World Cup’ style five-a-side tournament, with 24 squads of ten people each taking to the field. Stanmore Contractors Limited and BK Nolte Contracts Limited are the main financial sponsors for the day with Little Gem Catering providing the catering facilities at cost.

Net proceeds raised will go to charities – including:

  • Children of Heroes, a charity focussed on educating and mentoring the children of fallen servicemen and women.
  • MacMillan Cancer Support, the charity which aims to reach and improve the lives of everyone living with cancer in the UK.
  • The Silver Line, a charity which operates the only free confidential helpline providing information, friendship and advice to older people, open 24 hours a day, every day of the year.

Barratt Developments PLC will match the proceeds raised from the event, donating up to £30,000.

Although the stadium was purchased by the Gallaird homes from West Ham for a reported £38m it was sold on to residential property developers Barratt London in August.

Barratt London will now be building the 842 new homes on West Ham’s former home in Green Street.

flatsIn a press release Barrett’s finance director Tom Olsen said:

“The entire team involved in redeveloping Upton Park recognises the heritage embedded here and we are keen to mark the start of its new era with an event that will benefit a variety of charitable causes.”

The Boleyn development will include a mix of 842 one, two, three and four bedroom properties and incorporates 211 affordable homes including 125 at affordable rent and 84 available for shared ownership. Despite strong objection from some Upton Park residents and community and charitable groups over lack of affordable housing in Newham, planning permission was approved in March this year.

Such a feel good factor about the club these days. Former legends slagging off our players and new stadium always helps of course and then to see the old girl being demolished. Sigh.

I wish they would just get it done. Prolonging it only adds to the resentment of the anti OS supporters, and the pain of all hammers.
It’s like executing someone with a slow stretch of the neck.

In Slav we trust? I want to, but I don’t any more. Ditto DS. Bacca purchase smacks of desperation and actually PAYING for the privlidge of him coming in acting the big boss?? Swaggering around the dressing room like he owns it? Bet the other players will love that!!….and NOW ‘banishing’ Antonio to RB??? This is BONKERS!
Next summer when Ginge will prob retire, we are going to miss Tomkins. We could have used this year to properly toughen up Burke, Reece, Samuelson in the Championship, while keeping Tomkins…Europe would have given him more playing time etc….
Its lunatics have taken over the asylum time.
OMG…Of course! Our nemesis “Just like my Dreams” is haunting us once again; it’s back to “Have foot, will shoot it off!” time….The REAL West Ham way!!
Well, of course, that is a bit of an exaggeration, but if Antonio is having his better nature and good attitude p1ssed on. He showed by mistake in an aside that he didn’t want to be playing RB. Of course he doesn’t! He’s a goal machine. We are asking him to play in leg irons at RB!
He’ll be off; he won’t want to, we won’t want him to, but in the face of such intransigence and outright stupidity, who could blame him?
“Fade and die” is alive an kicking again….Depressing…Maybe, the failurenomics in our DNA is just too strong for even the greatest of minds like the 2 Davids and Slav….
But who knows, maybe it will all end happily ever after! I would love to be wrong (as I often am!!)

Goodbye old girl ; a sad day mixed with optimism for the future.
Bet the film turns into a classic though .
So as the Boleyn Ground goes with a bang ; we need to start with a bang at the LS .
Tonight will be a very tense affair . Hoping a West Ham psunami will wash Accrington away and prepare the new ground for better things .
    COY Hammers , up and at’em .
