Hammers respond to legend Parkes

|

phil_parkes_upton_park_11_september_2010West Ham have revealed that a letter of thanks and explanation will be sent to the club legends who have been surprised that they have not received an notification they are not required at the London Stadium for the time being as the operation of the lounges are still being assessed.

ClaretandHugh raised the issue via an interview with Phil Parkes yesterday in which the legendary goalkeeper explained he had heard nothing from the club and that he was now unlikely to be a regular at the stadium.

He had told us:  ” I’ve been working in that area for about 15 years along with the other lads and none of us got a letter informing us of the decision or thanking us.”

However, the club responded this morning by telling CandH: “A letter will be sent to all of those involved explaining things and thanking them for the past work. We are assessing things at the new stadium and will be in touch with them.”

Too late . The club only responds when they get bad press . Otherwise they couldn’t give a monkeys arse .

West Ham are not a charity funded by the fans What is it with old players who think that we owe them a living. When I leave work I will expect nothing and that’s what most of us will get. I’m fed up with the likes of Gale, Cottee, Parkes etc moaning. Thanks for playing for West Ham, you had your fun, you largely under performed in the tradition of the West Ham way, you earned a lot of money. Blew it? your problem. Stop your whining.

I know some won’t agree with me but Christ you have to draw the line somewhere otherwise we’ll have to re-employ hundreds of ex-players.

It’s not about players deserving a living . It’s about basic manners . Writing a letter would’ve taken very little effort and goes a long way . It’s like when your in a car And you give way to another car coming the other way down a street And they don’t raise a hand to say thanks and arrogantly drive past you as if you wasn’t there . Just shows a lack of class and arrogance

Nice to hear someone standing up for good manners. The club were using/employing his services. With the move, wouldn’t a letter, even if it was just stating they were still assessing their options, have been the courteous thing to do?
Let alone the fact that he was probably one of the finest goalies this club has ever had. Seems downright rude.
And it’s confusing; the club make a big thing about honouring the legends with hanging shirts, players images all over the place and naming 2 stands etc (which is great), yet they then treat a living legend like that.
Then, having been shamed, there is this attempt at damage limitation.
Strange and doesn’t sit comfortably with me.

Doesn’t sit well with you or Cometh the moment? Or both?

          • RickHammer says:

Lol Cometh The Moment would agree with Fish Guts I’m sure GW.They have very similar views. So similar if you didnt know you would think they were the same person.Oh wait a minute… 😉

        • Eddie says:

I assume you believe lying to be acceptable though Cometh & Chips!!

          • GW says:

Don’t you say that Eddie that’s bullying and hypocritical and you will just join the rest of the girlies on the battered haddock fishy moment list of nasty bully’s 🙂

          • Eddie says:

I couldn’t care less what the liar thinks of me.The man who is so concerned about a letter to ex-players but can bullsh1t his head off on here.Who is he to judge others manners or morals.Idiot!

There can be no excuse for this. I met Phil and his wife after the Wokves game last year. Great bloke. England’s No 1 in any other era. When he rolled the ball to Devo you thought a goal might be on. Great times. I run a building company and always take time to write and thank people when they move on. Old fashioned good manners. Jonny Lyall would be appalled – the exact opposite of his values. The clubs response is too little too late. I still support WH because of the great time I had watching these guys in the 70’s and 80’s. So basic an error I dispair.

This is clearly a poor show by the Club and whoever is in charge of PR needs a talking to by the board . It disappoints me as a lifelong supporter to hear these stories . The Club does not ” owe ” these ex players a living but they were clearly employed in some contractual way or another and you would expect some advance notification as to what might or might not be happening at the new venue .
I’ve seen Gale , Devo and Cottee in the 1895 Forge Lounge and sitting close to my seats at least for 2 games so far – so find it hard to believe there’s no communication with the club – but maybe there isn’t !!
Phil was a regular for years in Legends Lounge at the Boleyn so very surprised it just ” ended ” without so much as a ” goodbye we’ll be in touch asap ”
5-0 tonight v Accrington and 3-1 for us on Sunday / turning point ⚒⚒⚒
