Former Sky Sports presenter Richard Keys launched a scathing attack on West Ham technical director Tim Steidten, calling him a “sneaky weasel” and criticising the club’s management for its treatment of outgoing manager David Moyes.

On Monday, West Ham announced that Moyes would be leaving the club after his contract expires at the end of the season. This decision came after the club publicly pursued a new manager, culminating in an agreement with Julen Lopetegui, the former Wolves and Real Madrid boss.

Steidten played a key role in the search for a new manager, but Keys vehemently criticized him, branding him a “sneaky weasel” and lambasting West Ham’s leadership for showing a lack of class towards Moyes, who became only the fourth manager in the club’s history to win a major trophy. Keys also claimed that Lopetegui would leave the Hammers at the first opportunity.

On X, Keys wrote, “You wouldn’t want Tim Steidten with you in the trenches. Sneaky weasel. I’ve worked with one like him. Nor Lopetegui. He’ll be off as soon as he gets a better offer. And unopposed, West Ham’s management wins Classless Act of the season again. It’s a shame because it’s a great club.”

Keys’ tirade, which included personal jibes and insults, is completely out of touch with the realities of the modern game. His suggestion that a director of football shouldn’t be preparing for a managerial change is unrealistic. With his extensive journalistic experience, Keys should be able to express his point without resorting to personal attacks.

  • SD says:

What a stupid little man. ” classless act” is that the same thing that got him the sack at Sky. Foff werewolf and go shave your hands

  • Trevor says:

Personally, I can’t wait for the day that David Sullivan sells his majority shares. Not until he’s gone will West Ham challenge for the next level.

  • Kenneth Love says:

The only things Keys got correct in his rant is that WH are a great club. Moyes did a good job to a point where it was clear he was not the man to take the club forward with attacking football anymore than Keys is the right man to comment on the running of the club by the Board. Leave that to us true supporters we don’t like the majority of football that has been served up this season and a change of direction is needed weather it turns out right or wrong it had to happen.

  • Rowley Birkin says:

Richard Keys aka Mr Irrelevant. What a merchant banker.

  • Selsdonhammer says:

Does anybody still listen to Richard Keys, or care about his opinions? Clearly he hasn’t a clue.

  • Bennyboy baker says:

Richard keys is some sort of idiot the crap that comes out of his mouth is total bull s—t he can’t help himself he’s a forgotten has been and no one is interested in anything he has to say so he can do one total pratt

  • Phil Baker says:

Steidten was tasked by Sullivan with pursuing a new manager and as such was doing his job . The mistake has been to keep Moyes for far too long . 16 points from 17 League games in 2024 tells the disastrous story of another failed season in the league . Defeat to Luton and a record thrashing by Man City if Moyes isn’t sacked now .

  • Ian G says:

Says the man who was sacked for not showing any respect for his female colleagues.

  • Bennyboy baker says:

Richard keys is some sort of idiot the crap that comes out of his mouth is total bull s—t he can’t help himself he’s a forgotten has been and no one is interested in anything he has to say so he can do one total pratt if I was him I would stay away from the London stadium coz I’m sure he will get a welcome that will having running for the exit

  • Phil says:

Ler us not forget , as it seems alot of pundits have , it was Moyes bragging back in January that he had a new contract waiting for him to sign but holding off to the end of the season !! Arrogant Moyes again. Did he expect the board to hang around for him to make his mind up ??

  • Sensible says:

Keys is a has-been, his now just trying to get himself some publicity

  • IronMan says:

Remind me who he is and why he’s not on the tele any more?

  • Duck says:

You’re absolutely right. Forget that this is football. It’s about an employee doing what he’s paid to do when instructed by their line manager. Just Moyes’ Mafia time again. If they each had half a brain blah blah blah.

    • Gonzo says:

Exactly right mate, Steidten is essentially in HR, his job description dictates that he has to recruit staff for West Ham.

  • LORD ROBERT VENOUR says:

To be honest I wouldn’t want him or his crony friend Andy gray in my trench

  • Gary jeffs says:

And from a sexual predator. Why is he still employed??

  • Fred says:

    Richard who?

  • West Ham Fan no 32 says:

Keys and Gray are a couple of dinosaurs, in fairness to Keys he has been quite defensive of our club and its unfair treatment by referees for many seasons, on this he is wrong though, Steidten’s role is to identify talent and a pipeline in case anyone leaves the club so he would have a list of names, am not sure Lopetegui was on it and by most accounts that has been driven by another dinosaur Sullivan, I agree with him that this hasn’t been handled well from a media perspective with the open courting of managers, though it’s possible Moyes and Sullivan had already agreed he would leave prior to the publicity, only they know that for sure.

  • DCanio says:

At least he’s not a sexist pig.

  • JR says:

Remind me why Keys left…oops, got sacked from Sky!!
Still trying to be relevant, maybe!!!

  • michael maisonpierre says:

Classic case of the older gen reacting to one of their own going down. “I’ve worked with one like him”–baseless, then.

    Two words about Steiden:

    Alvarez

    Kudus

  • Sissons 64 says:

talk sport come out with **** like this to wind us up and get a reaction. The bloke is a Harry Hunt.

  • Mark quickfall says:

Keys has to make outlandish comments because of where he works hes a nobody working for nobodies on a nobodies sports channel
