Report: Fulham make bid for Hammer

|

Fulham have made a bid worth £12m plus add-ons to sign Issa Diop from West Ham this summer, per The Athletic.

The promoted side are said to have already made an offer of £10m plus add-ons, which was rejected, but have come back with a second offer worth £12m plus add-ons.

The Cottagers want Diop to sign a five-year contract if he does join them in this transfer window.

The Irons have already signed Nayef Aguerd from Rennes and Diop is now seen as an expendable option within the squad.

Diop only made 13 Premier League appearances last season and he could now be set for an exit this summer.

As well as Fulham, there is also interest from French club Lyon, who want to take him back to Ligue 1.

It remains to be seen if they will table a bid to rival Fulham’s offer but it does not appear that they have done so yet.

Only £12m plus add-ons? I’d prefer to keep him than sell for such a ridiculously low amount. It’s hardly freeing-up funds and he didn’t let us down when he was needed at the end of last season. Where would we buy a replacement for that kind of Premiership small charge? It seems that when West Ham look to buy they are quoted double the price of a player, but when they sell they offer bargains.

Got to be worth at least double that. Play hardball like the other clubs.

With an ageing increasingly injury prone back line in Ogbonna and Dawson it makes no sense to sell Diop for such a small amount. unless he wants out. Maybe a six month loan would be better and see where we are in the winter

Agree totally if we can’t get 20+ mill for an experienced Prem player like Issa then why are we being asked for more for untried young lower league players? Surely he is worth that to us at his age and level? I’m not convinced his form has been hit by Moyes not including him except as a makeweight.

I’m all for keeping him. If we sell, we’ll be in exactly the same position we were last year with only 4 CBs. Couple of injuries and we’ll be in trouble again. Diop, while error prone and positionally naïve, is a much better 5th option than no 5th option. Unless Moyes suddenly realistically trusts one of U-23s to step up when needed (Cup games and the like), keep Diop. I think we’re still to see the best of him and he’s still young. Ogbonna and Dawson won’t be around for much longer so, unless wages are a factor, there may be a long-term future for him here.
