Report: Hammers explore Bournemouth option

|

West Ham are interested in signing Bournemouth defender Steve Cook according to a report from the Daily Star.

The tabloid says that Steve Cook alongside Craig Dawson from Watford are being explored as options.

Cook was a crucial member of Bournemouth’s defence over their five seasons in the Premier League, but the 29-year-old was unable to help keep the Cherries in the top-flight last campaign. The defender has been a regular in Bournemouth’s starting line-up this season.

Bournemouth value the 29-year-old at around £8 million. The 29-year-old remains a key player for the Cherries under Jason Tindall having started their first four league matches and one EFL cup match. His defensive leadership qualities are highly valued by Bournemouth but they could well do a deal with an Academy defender coming the other way in a loan deal to provide cover.

Cook also cover right back and left-back positions making him a valuable versatile player.

Nice Post Sean if we are going for experience then Cook could do it. As in your article, experienced, leader, versatile. Fine in a back three.

    Still wrong age for me
I know it’s really easy to play Football Manager but I have and decided for an outlay of £33M the amount we reportedly offered Burnley for their central defender we could get the following FIVE championship players who would strengthen our squad and have resalable value
    DEF Worrall (Forest) £10m
    DM Chalobah (Watford) £6m
    Wingback Manning (QPR) £5m
    MID Swift (Reading) £4M
    STR Assombalonga (Boro) £8M
So easy!! Hopefully the 3 D’s will take note

& rename the side as Crewe Alexandra. What are we in existance for? To play well and win some games today? Or do we exist to turn over players and increase our wealth as if we were secaond hand car dealers?
Reality check – late twenties, early thirties might be a problem if we have to play these players in fifteen years’ time. But that has never been how it works.
Stop paying young bench-warmers £5m/year and get some value from current players.
By the way – whilst we persue the Crewe business model, we will plummet down the divisions with fans no longer having a team to support. London Stadium will go to a bigger club like Orient and life will not be worth living!

I used to thin like that especially under Pellegrini when he first arrived and I thought at last here we go to the next level……and then the bubble burst….now to be fair to Moyes he has said from day one he wants commitment from his players, he wants hungry young players, the Red Bull model and has been an advocate of talent in the championship…… He did not convince me at first but watching how we played against Wolves and Leicester he has won we round it is a long long time since we were so dominant against top opposition and guess what 3 of our better players in those games Cresswell Bowen and Antonio all came from the Championship!
We won’t fall down the leagues with players like that but arguably we would with expensive overseas defenders that most of us hadn’t heard of until we were linked with them .

  • ha ha ha over the hill thought we were going for hungry young players oh please board do the right thing sell up & go & please take Covid Moyes with you

Why would we want to get rid of Moyes, he is doing a great job
There really is no pleasing some people

Wouldn’t be unhappy with signing Steve Cook at all. Solid, good leader, experienced.

  • West Ham Fan No 32 says:

Steve Cook is a leader so would add some cover from that perspective, solid defender too and frequently exposed like ours when Rice or Soucek don’t play so shouldn’t be a shock to be in the team.

  • Good Ole Daze says:

How about King, Cook and Billing? Sounds like a firm of Bournemouth accountants, but I think they’d cover front, back and middle.

  • Geefunkhammer says:

Leader yes, but regularly found out last season. Very poor signing in my mind but we do need the squad cover.

  • Dutch says:

Anyone have thoughts on Jake Cooper?? Big strong durable leader…

  • Childish says:
