Reported Hammers target not expecting a switch

|

Jack Butland isn’t expecting to make a move to West Ham in the January transfer window.

The Hammers are known to be looking at both Asmir Begovic and Darren Randolph with the Stoke City stopper also named on social media and elsewhere  as being on their radar.

There are those who believe that  David Martin is a fair shout as back-up keeper and with Butland in the £10-£12m range he is an unlikely prospect anyway with the Irons unhappy at paying £5 million Randolph.

The 26 year old’s name has been regularly mentioned on social media but would surely  be looking for a first team gig in any event.

And with Lukasz Fabianski on his way back for the Irons, Butland’s chances of making a serious first team impact would be limited anyway.

In commenting on the possibility Butland demonstrated the sort of nous which comes after years in the game and made it clear he wasn’t looking or expecting a move without ruling anything out altogether.

He said: “I never look for it because in football you just don’t know. I’m not going to get bogged down in social media because you can turn that on at any time and see all kinds of nonsense, whether it be football related or not.”

“It’s not something I look for and to be honest it’s not something I’m interested in. It’s got no relevance to me and the club right now.”

He added: “I’m here, I don’t envisage anything happening, I’m not looking for anything to happen. In football, if things happen, you’ll be contacted and you’ll give it time of day, but as I say, I’m not looking for it.”

“I’ve still got a contract here, I’ve got 18 months left still. I think I’ve said in the past, if offers come in you have to judge it but ultimately I’m here and want to get us out of where we are.”

With Fabianski close to a return and Martin as back up there is a need to strengthen in midfield the forward line and LB and RB so surely wiser to put money towards these priorities.
