Sevilla held by relegation strugglers

|

West Ham’s Europa Cup opponents Sevilla were held to a 0-0 draw by relegation threatened Alaves on Friday evening.

It was their fourth away draw on the trot and means they spurned an opportunity to close the gap on La Liga leaders Real Madrid.

They are now eight points off the leaders who hammered  Real Sociedad 4-1 un their home fixture yesterday .

Alaves’ Joselu nearly opened the scoring in the first minute but goalkeeper Bono saved, while Sevilla had an early goal chalked off when Thomas Delaney’s strike deflected in off Youssef En-Nesyri who was offside.

Munir El Haddadi had the chance to win it for Sevilla in the 89th minute but shot straight at Fernando Pacheco in goal.

Alaves remain in the relegation places in 18th, three points from the safety zone in a game which sparked Hammers hopes that they will be able to nick some sort of a result in Spain on Thursday.

The La Liga outfit having  lost two games this season but have drawn 10 so the chance would appear to be there.
