Southgate eyes Irons pair ( and Defoe!)

|

AndyCarrollWestHam_2821401England boss Gareth Southgate is this morning reported to be  considering an international recall for Andy Carroll.

The player’s four goals in six games has put him back in the manager’s mind  and he could be joined by Michail Antonio in the next squad.

A rash of injuries up front, with Tottenham’s Harry Kane, skipper Wayne Rooney of Manchester United and Liverpool’s Daniel Sturridge all out – has elevated Carroll into Southgae’s thinking.

And the England boss is also considering a new call-up for  34-year-old for Jermain  Defoe, who has been watched over recent games.

ClaretandHugh revealed yesterday that the Sunderland striker remains very much a West Ham target in this summer’s transfer window.

He will make a final decision in the next 24 hours before naming his squad at St George’s Park for next Wednesday’s away friendly with Germany and a World Cup qualifier against Lithuania at Wembley four days later.

To be perfectly frank , both Carroll & Antonio deserve a shout for an England call up .
Carroll more than most has demonstrated a fantastic will to overcome injury and get involved . In truth England should have used him in the last Hodgson era . Reckon Hodgson was blind and rather a **** . Results and performance wouldn’t prove me wrong .
Antonio needs a chance to show what he can do for England .
So , back to the Prem ….
Defoe ; given his age is performing miracles and a last hoorah at West Ham would be good for both him and us . Bringing Defoe off the bench as a impact player could have a big effect on our results .
It seems like we are getting back to the old edage of , No West Ham in the England squad equals no success . It’s getting truer and truer with each passing competition .
Anyway , apart from that , West Ham really do need to wake up from Thier slumber and thrash Leicester City . If they don’t a relegation dogfight is back on the cards and a possible adios to Bilic .

We won’t be thrashing Leicester. Except in the (unlikely) event that they are cream crackered after last night. They have demolished Sevilla, Liverpool & Hull. We can’t match Bournemouth.

Regarding Carroll…please don’t pick him! The fewer games he has the better.
