Steinberg: Ben Johnson decision “appalling”

The respected Guardian journalist Jacob Steinberg called the decision to start Ben Johnson in place of injured midfielder Lucas Paqueta “appalling.”

It’s the latest in the ever growing list of accusations and criticisms directed towards manager David Moyes who has to be held responsible for yesterday’s defeat – after all he’s the boss.
What is particularly galling is the over reliance on one player, Paqueta. Surely Moyes would have thought about the many scenarios which would have occurred in his absence but he seemed entirely unable unable to find a solution – why? Because he is a stupendous player and irreplaceable in this squad.
Much has been written about our thrashing yesterday and Moyes`lack of tactical awareness. But with the exception of a few games, West Ham have been poor all season.
We have good players, a few short of a team with genuine top six potential perhaps, but we’re potentially a decent side. And then we have a manager whose tactics and the player’s evident lack of belief in the tactics bring us to this débâcle. The blame lies firmly with David Moyes.

This defeat continues West Ham‘s inconsistent and woeful form and raises further  questions about our tactical approach. They face Nottingham Forest next on Saturday, and we really need to bounce back. Is that possible with no Paqueta?

All Johnson can do is run with the ball he has no defensive qualities not good enough for premiership championship player at most maybe when Moyes goes maybe hell take Johnson with him losing a game taking a striker or attacking midfielder off and replacing them with Johnson is a joke
