Striker Mubama up for Player of Month award

|

Eighteen year old Hammers under 23 striker Divin Mubama has been shortlisted for the Premier League 2 Player of the Month award for February.

Mubama, was also nominated for last month’s award, has continued his fine form in 2023 with another four Premier League 2 goals in February, on top of the four he netted in January.

Born in Newham, Mubama joined us at the age of  eight. and signed his his first professional contract with the club in 2021.

He has been freely tipped as the next big thing to come out of the academy making his debut for West Ham in a UEFA Europa Conference League tie against Romanian club FCSB in Novermber of last year.

We Ham won the game 3–0 with Mubama’s header diverted into his own goal by FCSB’s Joyskim Dawa for West Ham’s second goal. Since then he has been an occasional and usually unused sub for the first team.

But he has been on fire for the under 23s striking a smart finish in the 1-0 home win over Fulham on February 10 2023, and followed up with an equalising penalty in the 1-1 away draw at Arsenal  a week later.

Mubama would cap another fine month with two more goals in the 3-2 home victory against Brighton & Hove Albion on Monday and overall his outstanding 2023 has seen him score eight goals and provide one assist in six Premier League 2 matches.

Also nominated for February’s award are Carlos Borges of Manchester City, Manchester United’s Omari Forson, Sunderland’s Harry Gardiner, Alfie Gilchrist from Chelsea, Aston Villa’s Omari Kellyman, Romaine Mundle of Tottenham Hotspur, and Wolverhampton Wanderer’s OIiver Tipton.

The nominees were selected by the Premier League’s Football Development Panel, and a winner will be announced next week.

Mr Moyes – if you took nothing else from Wednesday evening, note the great talent of the youngster scoring their first. They play young players!!! Get Mubama on the bench, and unlike Perkins and Alese, bring him on!!! Give Academy stars a chance to learn about playing first team. You seem great at blaming players, not so brave at backing them!!!
