David Sullivan has sent a big “well done” to Academy head Terry Westley and the under 23s on their promotion to Premier League Division One.

As we have reported the youngsters beat Newcastle 2-1 at St James’ Park last night to clinch promotion and a delighted Sullivan was quick to send his congratulations.

And the co chairman told ClaretandHugh: “I send a big well done.  Terry’s strategy has always been to develop players and not necessarily win games so our best under 23 players have been out on loan most of the season.

“And that makes the promotion an even greater achievement.
” We hope, over the next few years, to see a number of players coming through to the first team from the academy. Terry produced many Premier League players at the Birmingham Academy including Southampton’s Nathan Redmond and Jack Butland.”
