West Ham co owner David Sullivan started a huge guessing game this afternoon when revealing the club was close to a major signing.
The Hammers supremo refused to be drawn any further but the smart money is on Cheikhou Kouyaté with the club currently involved in meaningful and ongoing talks.
In his interview on the club’s official website the co-chairman said: “Should we land this player, we would have had to beat off competition from some of Europe’s top sides, and for me that shows the direction we are taking as a club right now.”
He refused to go further telling ClaretandHugh later: ” We now have a policy of not naming players until they are signed as we don’t want supporters to feel let down if deals don’t work out. No deals are done until they are signed.”
A ClaretandHugh source claimed however that negotiations are heading in the right direction with Kouyate who has been linked with Valencia, Arsenal, CSKA and Galatasaray.
However, a report in one Spanish paper this evening is claiming that Valencia may be preparing to up their offer to nine million euros but that the player remains very keen indeed to join the Premier League.
Our source added: ” Nothing would be a surprise as the Hammers are close on quite a number of deals.”
I hope Kouyate is just the appetiser and that the big fish signing is really a TOP striker!
I’m sure that your “high up source” within the club will tell you who this big name new signing is who will excite the fans if you ask them. After all you are in contact with this “high up source within the club” on an almost daily basis getting them to either confirm or deny rumours and funnily enough they never disagree with you
High up sources are high up sources because you respect their annonymity and they usually only say so much. However, I accept your attempt at irony even though on this occasion it is entirely misplaced 🙂
Fair comment. Just so many rumours around you know how it is. I wonder whether your high up source could dispell the rumours about juventus stoker fabio quagliarello then. Not the first time we’ve been linked with him and apparently five other clubs in Europe are also after him but his mate Carlos tevez has recommended west ham to him
I’ll check with his agent – cheers
Coyote the defender is hardly going to excite the fans is it? Money should be spent in attacking areas
Exciting ? fans will love this signing? is he on drugs? An 8 foot defensive monster, yep attacking football “NOT”
Don’t get carried away – it will probably be makng Roger Johnson a permanant signing!
