Supporters’ group plan new protest

|

Supporters group Hammers United have announced they are planning a new protest with the return of supporters to the London Stadium.

The group which are now part of the West Ham Independent Supporters Committee say replacing the current ownership is their number one priority.

They announced that their next publicised protest, where fans can join them, will be Sunday 19th September when Manchester United visit the London Stadium saying they will leaflet fans at Leicester City and Crystal Palace games when full details will be released.

Not all supporters are happy with the announcement with some taking to social to make their view known.

West Ham fan Finn Conradsen replied to the announcement on Twitter saying “Deep sigh. I am by no means a GBS fan but contrary to you guys I am able to see that they have learned from past disasters. West Ham is now heading in a very positive direction and right now I think we are lucky to have owners not only looking at the club through a spreadsheet.”

Another supporter called Stephen Field added: “I will NOT support the protest as it may probably destabilise the team.
The team is the most important thing. I hope this take-over takes place, it would be in West Hams interest not GSBs but aren’t they supposed to be supporters… Maybe not..”

Hammers United replied “We’re not here to convince people one way or another. We are a supporters group who simply act on behalf of our members. We have been given a clear mandate to campaign for new owners and so that is what we must do.”

With West Ham finishing sixth in the Premier League last season mostly without supporters and certainly no protests it is a valid question whether further protests could or would be a distraction to the team. We live in a democracy where everyone has the right to peacefully protest in our country but so much has happened in the world since that game in February 2020 when the London Stadium was last at full capacity.

We all have our right to protest it’s just will protests disrupt the team?. I think all protests will fall on death ears. Sullivan has a agenda to sell when he don’t have to pay the government any money or if someone comes in with a out of this world bid then just maybe but who’s is silly enough to do that?. It’s a hard one because we don’t want gsb at the club anymore but at the same time we want the team to do well. Anyway the best way to get someone’s attention is to protest outside someone’s front door not work place.

It’s not a suprise at all ,after the activity the last couple weeks,,, or lack of ,…I don’t think it will help ,but what do they expect,,,the owners don’t help themselves one bit

  • Legin says:

Just as I was looking forward to going back the “Rebels without a cause” strike again.

  • Peter Amos says:

Think this minor protest group needs to change it’s name to Hammers Disunited as their main tactics seem to be divide and conquer. How they think they have any chance of removing the owners
is beyond me . Yawn, yawn, 🥱.

  • Julian Woodhouse says:

Your bias does you no favours, I notice you did not seek or publish any pro-demo comments. Sullivan has tarnished this club long enough. I have no doubt that it is him who is making our transfer activity as difficult as possible by continuously changing the goalposts on Moyes and breaking the promises he has made. The sooner this person is gone from West Ham the better. I support the team always but not this blot on the West Ham landscape

  • The Cat says:

    Unbelievable!!!
I’m not happy with our government, I wonder if I can gather a group of disillusioned people like myself to protest and get them to leave office?
…….Well, it makes sense to me?

People can’t have it both ways! There was plenty of moaning when rumours leaked from the club like a sieve. Now Moyes has put the rumour factory into lockdown there are still moans. I suspect he is fully aware of the players we need and everyone is beavering away to get players in. You only have to look at other Premiership clubs activity to see its difficult. Unless of course you are Man City where the odd £200million pops up despite financial fair play rules! Or you could be like Spurs and sell your best player to fund new arrivals?

Here we go again! Sean questioning if the protests would disrupt the team.

Sean remind me, did you see the game which took place after the last protest, or were you too busy eating and drinking in the free box?
Maybe Hugh can answer? Did you listen to the game over the radio?

You could at least try and make it less obvious that your are not in bed with the board, or ‘allegedly’ having the site funded by them. Maybe C&H could release their accounts so the fans could see for themselves?

  • Eug says:

I have noticed that the protesters are only interested in their view. When ever I have discussed these issues with the GSB out mob, if you don’t agree with them they get very personal and aggressive and throw insults. No body but them apparently are true supporters. They act like dictators themselves. This is their attempt at moo rule. Thank God for the silent majority. The 65,000 that turn up every other week.

    • Geoff Balls says:

Do you not see the hypocrisy here?
This whole article is Sean damning the protest group.
Take a look back though the comments section on C&H, the majority contain aggressive messages from Hugh, insulting people by calling them stupid and lacking intelligence.

  • Childish says:

Simple,, I don’t like the protests, but we’re has the money gone…its not just some disgruntled fans asking..top pundits and ex west ham players are asking these questions..money from haller…. wages gone from Anderson……30 million from last window that moyes had available, but wanted to save it for this window….every deal is a loan..every target is to expensive..im sorry but its just lies again,, remember when we didn’t buy za za and had 2o million to spend nxt time .. a bit like last window’s saved money, ……that got forgotten about as well.. …….you ask these questions and all you get is a page of figures that make no sense……how many months have we had to sort this recruitment out ,,after a cracking season that led to Europe in so many years ,,,really though they would push on … ..I understand how some fans get angry at protests, but how can you not get angry at the way we are conducting ourselves in transfer market, when every other prrm side are having no trouble whatsoever buying players ….and there not even in europe ……im very very angry as I thought this year would be different after brilliant last seasons

  • James pain says:

We know the owners aren’t going anywhere until 2023. I don’t have any time for Sullivan or Brady ( I don’t mind Gold)
So until 2023 any protests are pointless

But I was pleased when he kept his mouth shut and didn’t appear in the media all the time trying to stroke his own ego.

Let’s be honest we over achieved with our Squad last year considering how thin it was. Add in the Europa League and we really needed to strengthen the squad considerably. But we know that’s not going to happen in the current economic climate.

The problem is that people just don’t like Sullivan etc. It’s probably impossible for him to win around a very large majority of the fan base whatever they do because of a number of incidents in the past.

  • SouthCoastWHU says:

Surely this isn’t the way to start a new season full of optimism and excitement? I haven’t been to see WHU for 18 months and i cant wait to get in the ground and cheer the boys on. I’m 40+ and have never seen a WHU side work so hard or be so together as they are now. They are a team (in every sense of the word) to be proud of.

Everyone has the right to protest if they want to – but surely we should concentrate all our efforts in getting behind the team?

The slogan ‘getting GSB out is #1 priority’ worries me slightly, does this imply that they don’t care who buys the club from them? What if the next people are worse? The current owners may not be perfect – but the club seems to be moving in the right direction now (on and off the pitch).

    • Childish says:

It’s not the way to start for sure ,,,but is a the blame on the protesters or disgruntled fans ….or should the owners take some blame, for the way they are going about there businesses in the last few weeks….or should I say lack of …
Couple of high profile signings like they promised would help …I know that’s not the only reason for the upheaval but it certainly woukd help standing by there promises just once ..

  • Taffyhammer says:

Get the owners out. Give the club and all of its money to the true supporters at Hammers United. Easy. Or maybe just the members of HU who expressed the opinion which gave HU their mandate to protest. Nobody else should profit or be involved. Democracy at work and redistribution of wealth to those who most deserve. After that, HU can disband and reform as Spurs United. Repeat the successful takeover procedure at Tottenham. Sod the football – all going to be rich enough to get season tickets at Manchester United watching them in the European Super League.
    Utopia! COYI

  • West Ham Fan No 32 says:

I would rather see owners that had a solid business strategy and that backed the manager the way they backed others to develop us on the field but this protesting seems pointless, the owners are not as bad as some and better than many others. In the recent couple of years they have been relatively quiet on the media front which is imho heading in the right direction from where we were. They said if someone who had the best interests of the club at heart and finances to deliver appeared they would consider selling, am waiting for that to materialise to see if they have the integrity to follow through on their promises but until such a moment or any serious screw ups by them I will be backing the team in the stadium, they need our support COYI!!!
