Police were called to a terror alert at the London Stadium ahead of West Ham‘s clash with Burnley.

The Mail on line reports officers on patrol were made aware of a suspicious vehicle parked close to one of the gates to the venue before Wednesday’s night’s kick-off.

Initially, a message was placed over the stadium’s loudspeakers for the owner to return immediately to a grey Volkswagen Golf.

Eventually, the owner was found and spoken to by officers as the match went ahead as planned.

A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police said: ‘On the evening of Wednesday, 8 July, officers on patrol outside the London Stadium were notified of a suspicious vehicle parked close to one of the gates.

‘Additional officers attended and a cordon was put in place. The owner of the vehicle was identified and given words of advice. No arrests were made.’Premier League clubs were warned before the restart that stadiums could be vulnerable.
