The night of our lives…Irons heroism in it’s purest form

Match verdict by Hughie Southon

Heroism in its purest form … a historic night in the life of all Hammers… a night when  David Moyes  proved that he may finally have become the new Sir Alex Ferguson.

This was sensational – a stunning victory with a defence stripped of Cress and Zouma . It was a night  when justice was done after the criminal sending off of our 32 year old left back at the London Stadium.

I was among those who saw Mooro’s Irons beat TSV Munich back in the 60s at Wembley and have seen nothing like it since UNTIL TONIGHT.

The guts and determination of this amazing squad was the stuff which cause fans to shed tears – there were loads of us tonight doing exactly that.

If I HAD to pick a man of the match it would have to be Daws who was extraordinary and has been all season but he was followed closely by Mikey Antonio who was forever creating waves of anxiety through the Lyon defence.

But as a mate pointed out during the game, Declan’s face as he scored the goal which saw us go two up, demonstrated clearly he is a Hammer t0 his backbone and he won’t be going anywhere. The joy was wonderful to see.

I now believe he will win his first trophy this season and we will go into the Champions Cup next season as a result with Declan leading us.

What a night for Nobes and what a way that will be to bow out of the club he has served with such distinction.

We were beyond brilliant tonight. coming away with a clean sheet in front of one of Europe’s most volatile and – at times – violent bunches of supporters.

If any of you sleep tonight after that well done …the adrenalin is rushing through all our veins – the emotion is like nothing we have ever felt before.

Enjoy…enjoy…enjoy our magnificent Irons.

Thank you Moyesy….thank you lads.

WHAT A DAY! i’m on the other side of the world. i couldn’t get to see a ball kicked in this game, have been awake for 2 hours and too scared to look up the result ’til now. today there are public holidays everywhere because somebody important to some died a long time ago. not West Ham though! one of the most frustrating teams to support (for so long) but not today. what a great squad. not the biggest, not the best but finally worthy of the word UNITED. so proud 💪⚒💪⚒ COYI!!! all the way now….
