Time for Irons to move on after a game when we didn’t turn up

|

Match verdict By Hughie Southon

No surprises here really and to put it in simple terms ‘that’s football for yer.’

Those of is who had hoped and believed the adrenalin and heroics of Thursday night would inspire the lads  heights were proved sadly wrong.

The truth was we simply didn’t turn up at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and as a result suffered just about our biggest defeat of the season!

Beyond a fine goal from Said Benrahma and some exciting stuff towards half time we were never really at the races and to turn insult into injury the final goal came out of the book of Sam Allardyce’s guide to ‘hoof it’ football.

It was no way to go into an international break but this put an end to a run of tough fixtures and we can now look forward to – what on paper – looks an easier time of things if one dare say that.

With the likes of Everton, Burnley, Brentford and Norwich among our fixtures the game’s not up for the top six although Chelsea away, Arsenal at home and Manchester City at home look troublesome.

Spurs probably have the easier of the two run ins but hope springs eternal and fortune hasn’t exactly been hiding until tday.

The two week break will help – that’s for sure. This one is best forgotten!

A game we didn’t want or need after the heroics of three nights ago. Tired bodies and adrenalin sapped minds couldn’t cope but it’s not the end of the world.

Sorry Hugh, I’m taking an issue with the “The truth was we simply didn’t turn up ” statement.
West Ham turned up, I could see them there. Following possibly the best performance of the season (Certainly the best 120 minute game) just 66 hours earlier, 11 players took the field, although with Masuaku starting it seems like 10, and were in the game up until the 3rd goal, Antonios’ profligacy was a telling feature, as was Anthony Taylors interpretation of the ‘no hands to the face in malice’ rule, Plus, David Moyes’ refusal to rotate his squad, even when it’s clear they are shattered, and sit International players …. They turned up all right, just got beaten by a more expensive team….. who aren’t playing in Europe!

      Moyes screwed up again.
Put faith again in the worst player in the PL in Masuaku.
I just can’t see how DM considers his worth.
Not starting Vlasic. Surely he’ll want to show his worth.
Diop not used in place of the knackered Dawson.
Not using or promoting one U23’s throughout the season. Alese or Coventry could not of done worse.
Failure to do this has set us up for having to win the EL.
Moyes has done great but all that could be undone without victory for starters over Lyon.
Who don’t care about their league position and will rest players in due course.

Didn’t expect anything else to be honest.
We played 112 minutes Thursday night and we can’t rotate the squad because it’s so small.
Just gutted we had to play Tottenham on a spursday week!
