Top four challenge – the boss lays it out

|

David Moyes is the first to admit we aren’t there just yet as the top four talk dominates West Ham for the first time in many years.

The Hammers have taken a very fast elevator to the top since the Scot took charge for the second time – whether they can carry on to the top floor is a big call and could depend on whether we can bring in players during the window.

The manager has been consistently playing down hopes over the early weeks of the window, lowering expectations all the time until today when  he has admitted he may get two in over the next few days

Let’s hope so because the Irons are always one or two players away from an injury crisis which can wreck those hopes at a stroke and with covid still in the equation that re[presents a much bigger problem.

Commenting in his presser the manager said: “We don’t necessarily see ourselves as quite there yet, but we want to try and challenge them and have a good go at hanging in there.

We missed out last year by two points, so the challenge to the players this season was to get those extra two points which might make it this time.

Let’s be fair, the level of competition for those spots is very strong. Over recent years, it’s been quite a regular group of teams who have been there, with maybe the likes of Leicester City and Tottenham Hotspur too.

It’s not an easy group to break into. We’re going to keep trying to hang in there, and see where we end up.”

We would and still could push and maintain our top 4 hopes with some sound transfers and that he plays them, unlike Areola and Kral who sadly wasted their seasons with us.
