It does not come as much of a surprise to discover that West Ham will not be making Kalvin Phillips’ loan deal from Manchester City permanent, according to Sky Sports journalist Florian Plettenberg.

The loan, which lacked a buy option, has been a failure for both West Ham and Phillips. The England international’s struggles, including a red card, conceded goals, and penalties, have fallen short of expectations.

West Ham, hoping to bolster their midfield with the loan, are now looking elsewhere. Phillips’ disappointing performances have left fans relieved that the club won’t pursue a permanent transfer.

With his Manchester City contract valid until 2028, Phillips’ future remains unclear. While his talent is undeniable, his West Ham loan stint has highlighted areas needing improvement. A fresh start at another club might be what he needs to rediscover his form.

The initial expectation of this loan being a win-win situation for both clubs has not materialised. West Ham remains in need of midfield reinforcements, and their search continues.

Maybe a Championship side for next season or even a League One side. I mean, he is a big liability with attitude!

    • Trevor says:

      What attitude?

      • De says:

He takes 150grand a week off us, plays with zero effort and you say what attitude? Lol ffs

        • Ivan paul says:

He was brilliant until man city signed him and then forgot about him by not playing him for weeks which in turn killed his confidence so the clubis to blame not kalvin and it looks like grealish is going the same way, also look at man united how many players have they killed??

          • 8910 says:

Chatting rubbish, every day in training you have the opportunity to impress the manager to get selected for the next game. He was not good enough for Man City. I know Pep is a miracle worker but he’s not a magician.

            • Matt wils says:

Talking rubbish. Pep doesn’t know talent. He buys the finished product! You cannot fail when you buy the best.

        • Chris D says:

Phillips is a liability for any club at the moment, he needs to get rid of that diva attitude he got at Manchester City and get his head down, back to basics and get some respect back.

        • Gj Thomas says:

What are you talking about..He obviously means he has a bad attitude. The middle finger to our fans lol

      • Lee says:

He needs to come back home where his heart is …back to leeds united ,you watch the difference when he put the leeds shirt back on !!!

        • Ivan paul says:

Spot on Daniel will get him back to his best

          • Al D says:

Form is temporary etc…Pep must have seen something in him!

          • Shane Byford says:

There is only farky what can do something with Philips and get him up and running again back to the way he should be again. He was a very big Leeds fan and player until he moved to man City and then it all came crashing down on him I actually do feel sorry for the lad because he does deserve better.

            • Ian says:

I have watched Phillips for yrs as a LONG time Leeds fan. His spirit, attitude, skill and drive was never in doubt. He has been vilified and criticised constantly since his mice to Man city, and yet his commitment has always been there. Man management is key to any player and the handling of Kalvin has been abysmal. It’s easy to blame the player but maybe people should look at themselves and there handling of the situation. I hope Leeds resig. Him and within a year he will be a key England player again

      • Greeneyes,green street.. says:

What an earth do you mean What attitude, the man is undeniably only suited to a non league side, even then it must not be a title seeking side. He has solely destroyed westhams position in the premiership and our European football….Useless not fit to pickup litter from the stands..

      • Stephen says:

Let’s get him back at Leeds. Then he will show how good he is . He has said it himself he misses leeds.

    • John says:

He’s used to big clubs with a world wide following. West Ham were too small for him.

    • Profiler says:

One season at City and he has lost the desire to play football. Not a good look.

    • Roland Simpson says:

You know nothing. I’d like to see how you would fair after being on the bench for 2yrs. You only have to have an injury on your leg to see just what 2 weeks muscle wasteage you have.
He’s been wrongfully treated by City and your fans who are fickle to the core.

  • Mr Buddy Lurve says:

I think his problem was that he turned up out-of-shape and with a big ego, believing that he is bigger than West Ham and would just sail in and show Pep what he’s missing.

Reality hit, and his lack of fitness and willingness to focus led to mistakes. Those mistakes led to a drop in confidence and morale, and only the strongest of players are able to reset, work hard and climb their way back to the top. Everyone else gets an attitude, believes in their own hype, blames everyone else and waste their talent.

It remains to be seen which camp Phillips sits in.

    • Trevor says:

Kalvin’s only problem is that he hasn’t fitted in. Not every player does. Vlasic was another one.

      • Mike says:

Sorry, he hasn’t tried to fit in. Jogging around the pitch… another Moyes mistake

      • De says:

You’re gonna use vlasic as your other example? Lol good one. Ask Torino how he’s fitting in there lol

        • Roland Simpson says:

What about Scammacca and the other striker 🤔 that doing well away from West ham.
If the system doesn’t fit you anyone will struggle.
You’re all full of assumptions Phillips is a home boy down to earth 🌎 lad not like you Southern softies.

  • Mogg says:

Many of us thought that Phillips would get us over the line for European football. However, the mistakes he made in every game actually cost us those point needed to secure a European spot. The matches against Bournemouth and Newcastle cost us 5 points alone.

    • Roland Simpson says:

If you analyse the game his so called 1st mistake was a bad short pass which I agree he was slow to react but it was short.
The penalty at Newcastle was deliberately play for and there was no shout. You wouldn’t be saying anything if it had been one of the West ham players that’s the crux of it all.
The sending was harsh everyone in the commentary agreed as the yellow card was soft
You don’t like Moyes but he’s given you a Trophy but you still want him gone.
I’d love to see you lot manage your team.

  • Trevor says:

West Ham dropped those points because of the performances of the ten outfield players, not just Phillips. A European place (7th) is still achievable as the teams around us are dropping points.

  • Phillyboy says:

Moyes or whoever sanctioned the signing obviously hadn’t watched his England performances from a few months ago, so far off the pace and out of shape! To blow our transfer budget on a player who needed at least a few months to get fit was bonkers!
Same as a couple of years ago when were last in the Europa League and had a very good chance of winning it but we failed to strengthen properly in Jan and then lost the chance of a Champions League place!

    • Christian Lund says:

He just looks out of shape. Footballers these days are athletes. He however has the physical attributes of a premier league dart player . Drop down a level, get fit and go again.

  • Eastendexile says:

I feel for him. The first goal conceded was as a result of a hospital ball from Zouma. We all know the pen against Newcastle was false and was Gordon conning the ref.
Yes he has suffered from lack of game time and he got sent off, but he is a good player and I wish him well going forwards

  • John smith says:

    It “does” come ?
Wow 2 words in and you get it wrong.
    Great journalism

  • Rachel says:

Unfortunately Kalvin has had the life sucked out of him by Pep and Man City.
He needs to come home to Leeds

  • Joe Papas says:

Before footballers decide to sign for a club, these are the questions they should ask themselves:
    1. Is there any player in the entire squad I’m better than?
    2. Is there anyone in the starting 11 I’m better than?
    3. Is there anyone who plays my position that I am better than?

If the answer is no for any of the questions, stay put and don’t sign.

Kelvin should have known, there was no way he starting ahead of any of Man City’s heave midfielders. He should have gone to a different club and not City. Once he made that mistake, it was only down hill he was heading. He needs to play outside of EPL to bring himself up.

  • Bill says:

Players need to play and be confident in doing so. But the player’s obligation is to maintain their fitness and match readiness. After all, they are professionals and paid to do so. But one can see that Phillips is definitely broken and not the same player he was at Leeds and his value is not anywhere Man City hope but they are team the ones who ruined him as a player

  • Simon says:

For the Phillip’s saga alone, Moyes should be fired.
What company/business in this life would allow millions to be wasted consistently by 1x person, and not fire him?
Everyone except arrogant Moyes could see Phillips was not fit physically, premier standard and has a bad attitude. And for that, Moyes would probably play him in all the remaining matches, whilst poor Downes had to leave home on loan to pursue his career as he was not good enough, according to super-coach Moyes.
    Get rid now please !!!!

  • Mick says:

If Kalvin Phillips was good enough for Bielsa he’s more than good enough fir West Ham.

    • Hammeroo says:

And Bielsa was sacked. I wonder if you have even watched the ‘highlights’ of Phillips’ performances for West Ham? It’s not pretty!

  • Sue says:

Calvin has been ruined by pep guardiola at man City only wanted him so he’d got enough English players he never had a chance there. Bielsa made him and he was fantastic for us just leave him alone wala mot

  • Peter Hughes says:

Kalvin Phillips has never played well for any of the teams – particularly England. He appears to have absolutely no football brain and is continuously behind the play. Running (walking??) around in space away from the ball or contact for 90% of the time doesn’t actually contribute to a team does it???

  • Boldsirbrian says:

Another in the mould of Dele Ali. Cock sure of his own ability but really the only one sure! Found out.

  • Al D says:

Do you think KP would have left Leeds to join WHam? No neither do I

  • Keeble Kelly says:

That is why Leed is relegated. KP have 2 much attitude. City under pep can turn any1 into a Genius once you a willing to adapt. Look at P Foden. Every1 wants playing time but not ready to play. He was killing for playing time and Pep grant him his wish.

  • Hugh mchunt says:

Phillips was never anything other than a running machine. He was a mid table team at best. Very much like grealish , phillips stood out because the rest of the team were championship level turnips apart from raphinia

  • Mick Hammer says:

No grown sportsperson should need their confidence boosted. Phillips is useless.
