West Ham haters forced to eat humble pie

humblepiegighamSocial media is a wonderful thing when you can time hop back to see what people were saying about West Ham before the start of the season and before Olympic Stadium tickets went on sale.

My  favourite tweet is from Niall Harbison posted on 1st July last year.

“Football chairman are egotistical idiots. (West ham + Leicester sacking Big Sam + Pearson). I’d have both odds on to be relegated”

Well Niall, Leicester City lead the Premier League by five points and could well win the title while West Ham remain in fifth place just two points from fourth place and a champions league spot. We remain in the FA Cup just 90 minutes away from a FA Cup semi-final with Everton at Wembley.

Yesterday’s news that there are less than 500 seats left at the Olympic stadium brings a  new set of opposition fans that can now find fame and be forced to eat some humble pie. They said we would never fill it,  they said we were a small team, that we would be relegated before we got there that it would all end in tears!

Luke Muchmore on 22nd April 2015 on twitter

“West ham board know that they won’t fill the stadium though, arsenal will never have that problem so they can keep upping prices”

Matt Bromage  on 10th Feb 2014

“West Ham are going to be championship/league 1 by the time they move in, and will never fill the stadium”

Luke Scottow on 22nd March 2013

“Don’t understand how West Ham got it.  Small  Club – they will never fill the stadium, because who really wants to watch a pub team???”

Sending some West Ham humble pie to over to you all soon to swallow with pride!

If you find any other amusing social media posts of yesteryear about West Ham let us know we would love to highlight them too.

  1. First time posting on this site, I have to say I’m a massive fan of the website!! Just wanted to share my input because I want to be able to connect and share my thoughts with my fellow hammer fans. Their are always going to to be people who will talk down and spew crap about what they don’t know. The only way to consistently be the best, is to ignore the noise and bullsh*t around you and keep moving on and improving your game. Every week I here pundits who keep having to eat their words. I really don’t care though, fu*k the haters and let’s move onto more important business. I say we win the Premier League within the next 2 years COYI!!!

  2. At the moment? West ham are the fifth best pub team in the country** DINGBAT**

  3. Welcome 27 . Its got boring now mate , but its the British way of doing things in football , we all hate some teams more than most and it gets naughty sometimes as it gets Ott, as you say just keep going in the right direction and just stick the middle finger up ,
But if its the spuds , mancs or Everton then feel free to give it Large!

  4. As an armchair fan from many miles away I’ve absolutely loved watching our beloved Irons do so well.
I thank Sam for his efforts, Slav has taken us forward and to all those who saw us as relegation fodder… Bahahahaha, how’s that feckin’ pie taste boys?

  5. I must admit I am feeling really happy this season. I did also have my doubts that we would have the fan base to fill the stadium at first. I have been to a few games where the stadium was not exactly full. However I soon changed my mind when I thought about the new stadium and the transportation links that we now have. I still think that the 2nd and 3rd seasons will be the marker of us. Will we still be selling out 60,000 seats?
With my WHU hat on I say Yes as we will be CL all the way 🙂

  6. Welcome 27 join the plastic ex pats,
I still think we could fill 70,000 easy every week, and I might get a chance to get a ticket,
My problem I had 3 season tickets 9 years ago and let them go ( TWOT )
Did they mean Sunderland but miss quoted
What sort of Pie Sean, did you get the recipe from the wet side or is it a family secret

  7. Nothing wrong with being an armchair fan on this site mate, we all qualify to be supporters whether we can go to matches or not. 😉 but remember what you wish for… for one of the first season’s in many a year I am getting what i’ve always wished for, a good west ham team challenging for trophies & being in the mix for european qualification. Could any west ham wish for more this season??

  8. C&H Good article, we have been mocked at for many a year and everyone second favourite club because we were not a threat, well now we are and we are going to get a few more haters as time goes by.
What I would like to know from you trusted guys is WHAT THE HELL IS ALL THIS TALK ABOUT BENETEKE. Are my beloved West Ham seriously going to spend £20 mill on this man?

    • I think we may have lost the ‘everyones 2nd fav club’ tag, too many green eyed monsters over the OS put pay to that. Benteke £20m? no no no no no. Got a big L’pool reject battering ram already thanks.

  9. Thanks for the welcome guys 🙂 Bubs, what does plastic ex pats mean?

  10. We are the none season ticket holders and to some very Dim people second class fans,
    But not on this site,
We are not supposed to make comments and to some breath about our club,
It’s normally brought up by individuals after they have lost an argument,
But hey ho who cares what a few clueless morons think,
Enjoy 27 you will meet some decent people on here and just a few sad people that make flying visits, but that makes it entertaining

  11. Thanks for the info, that is pretty funny. I have been following this website and reading the comment section for a while now, so I definitely know what you mean. Excited for some banter 😉 COYI!!!
