Young Hammer is fabulous admits Moyes

|

Young Hammer Ben Johnson has stepped up to the plate when needed to cover the right-back position when Vladimir Coufal and Ryan Fredericks were injured in the same Carabo Cup game against manchester United.

Yesterday West Ham’s own official Twitter account proudly posted Ben Johnson has played 450 minutes this season. 𝗭𝗘𝗥𝗢 goals conceded”

On Sunday he faced his toughest test as he came up against Spurs but it was a great performance as he kept Son quiet all afternoon.

He has started five games this season and has kept a clean sheet in every single one of them. There might be a few things he needs to work on going forward but his awareness and urgency are superb.

David Moyes described the performance of Ben Johnson against Tottenham yesterday as ‘fabulous’.

Speaking after the 1-0 victory over Spurs the manager was asked whether Aaron Cresswell had an excellent to which he replied

“I actually thought that all the defenders played very well. I actually thought young Ben Johnson, when you think that we’ve been with a couple of the right-backs recently, I think Ben Johnson has had three games this week, and I thought he was fabulous.

“Johnson signed a three-year contract in 2019 which is due to expire in the summer of 2022 but the club has a two-year option that they fully intend to activate to extend the contract to 2024.

The big question is whether Vladimir Coufal walks straight back in the team when he recovers from injury or whether Johnson keeps his shirt and Coufal has to wait patiently for his chance to get back into the team.
