Amazing Areola moment deserves reward

It’s Areola time surely!

Following his amazing save in the Conference game against Anderlecht, and the arrival of his former loan club Fulham to the London Stadium, he has to be hopeful of a place in the starting line up.

Anybody who has played the game at any level knows that confidence can take a big dip if ignored after a really good performance and the Frenchman will feel no different,

“We’re on a pretty positive run at the moment, so it’s up to us to keep the momentum, and go and win now on Sunday against Fulham,” the France international goalkeeper said.

“It was a fairly close game on Thursday, with not many opportunities, but the substitutions made the difference. They came in very well, we were already settled into the game, and they gave us that little bit extra.”

Thursday’s win owed plenty to Areola’s magnificent reaction save to keep out a Fabio Silva header late on, after Gianluca Scamacca’s smart finish has broken the deadlock eleven minutes from time.
It was a truly brilliant one handed save which would have done justice to any top game in the world.

The 29-year-old was thrilled to play his part as his team secured a third straight win to maintain their 100 per cent record in UEFA Europa Conference League Group B.

“The save came at was a moment where we were suffering a bit more. We started to fall back. The end of the game…It’s intense…I saw the cross come in, I adjusted my position quickly and I was ready to intervene; Thankfully for us, it made the difference and saw us win.

“We knew they were a good team, so we had to be ready; we had to be ready to play a decent team, good with the ball. We knew how to keep the ball; we knew how to control it throughout the game.”
