Areola on the move?

Areola to Fiorentina?

According to Corriere dello Sport , Alphonse Areola could leave West Ham to join Fiorentina in the summer transfer window. It appears that the West Ham board have agreed that the 30-year-old Frenchman could be sold this summer.

Hammers boss David Moyes clearly still favours Lukasz Fabianski as his number one, and the Scot has also been linked with a move to sign Giorgi Mamardashvili  from Valencia.

So perhaps the French World Cup winner could be heading for an exit.

We seem to have some strength in depth with goalkeepers at the London Stadium, but selling the 30-year-old to the Italian side this summer could be a big mistake .

Areola is a top-class goalkeeper, and he could be our number one stopper for the next seven or eight years.

The 30-year-old has conceded just 36 goals in 41 appearances for the Hammers and kept 18 clean sheets in the process (Transfermarkt).

Areola joined West Ham on loan from Paris Saint-Germain in the summer of 2021, and then made his move to the London Stadium a permanent one in 2022 for around £8 million

However, it seems as though his stay in East London could be a short one. If Fiorentina make a firm offer for the 6ft 5in goalkeeper this summer, can anyone see Moyes fighting hard to keep him ?

Why not get rid of Fabianski instead ? Why get rid of a younger Keeper ? One with younger reflexes and younger eyes.

Hopefully just paper talk. Otherwise a plainly ridiculous idea. For once I thought there might be some forward planning in place. Swap the keepers around next year. Big Al certainly deserves his chance. Fab has done nothing wrong but his time as first choice is up. We have a ready-made, proven replacement ready to step in. Let him step in. Hopefully there will be lots of cup games to keep Fab happy so keep them both.

I’d think twice before letting Areola go.
OK, he hasn’t been first choice for Moyes, but he has shown that he can be a first choice keeper.
The other thing is, he has been a bit of a lucky charm!
He’s won a World Cup, 4 championships, 2 cups and the European Conference

I guess it will come down to £cash, He’s under contract until 2027, cost about £8mil. which seems pretty cheap compared to Kepa, Becker, Ederson, even Ramsdale cost £25mil.

Of all the problems to solve, this is not one of them! Just obvious, Areola number one keeper and Fab is a great back up. Move on, it ain’t broke.
