West Ham manager David Moyes has told unhappy supporters that their support will be vital to surviving in a Premier League relegation dogfight.
He has told fans they can play their important part by getting behind the team suggesting that crowds can have a real influence on the team and individual players.
Speaking in published club quotes ahead of the Manchester City away game on Wednesday night Moyes said: “Stick with the team, your support is going to be vital.
At home especially I think you can play your part and you can be an influence. We have had very few decisions since we have been here I have felt that have gone for us and at times the crowd can influence that and we need to try and get behind the team which they have been to be fair.
“And I have to say they have been great with me, they’ve really supportive and helped me since I have been back and I have to say stick with us and hopefully we will turn it around.”
Claret and Hugh say: It is hard to disagree with the gaffer’s words and sentiment in fans being the twelfth man for West Ham both home and away. Inside the stadium, we have to show our support with loud voices and familiar songs to encourage another great escape from relegation.
The rest will be up to the manager and the players to do their part and with al his player available and results currently going in our favour at the bottom we have every chance of surviving.
Never stop believing!.
I’ve always said if the players put in proper shifts every game there isn’t a problem because the fans can see they worked there socks of and gave everything..west ham fans love hard work ,even if we lose it’s not so bad because they have tried .its when they do t work and go hiding were the problem lies ..u can control hard work, so it should be there every single week ..weather there having a good game or not ..sonifvyhe players give everything the fans will follow ..simple.
I have been watching the Hammers since 1957. If the team gets behind us ie. is seen to be giving 100% whether winning or losing, then I KNOW we will get behind them. That’s all we really ask and what we have so seldom had in the last few seasons.
Support the Team, not the Regime.
GSB OUT!
Mr Moyes its getting harder to celebrate a goal lately due to VAR when you think it’s a goal! Then someone in a place not even near the stadium rules its not a goal on a technicality?? Or a ref rules hand ball (Glenn Murray) and that same geezer in that place far away VAR says it’s not handball you start to think , have we got to celebrate or have delayed celebrations?? And of course when you think we’ve got something to celebrate from being in winning positions and the defence and team throwing games away in the last 10 minutes or so ?? So yes Mr Moyes we all do get behind the team although its getting harder with what West Ham will turn up!! And all the fun live to celebrate some decisions to be turned on their heads by VAR that’s the pleasure of live football ! Of course at home on sky its entertaining ? But celebrating a goal at the game to have VAR take it away . It is hard as a season ticket holder wondering how are we gonna play either the west ham way, or the indecisive 11 ? Is one thing but VAR is sucking some of the supporters enjoyment to delayed celebrations and it’s not all the supporters fault about being unhappy
Hugh
In the chicken run we could hear the west stand singing.. in the new Billy Bonds stand we can see you singing but cannot hear you. Is it the same for you in your seat. So far apart now. Can the players hear us?
That is what I miss most. The noisy atmosphere of the Boleyn. Can we ever get it back at new stadium.
Obviously (I’m in BMU ) it;s really not the same as UP but yes I can hear it if not so clearly. But there were games early season – Norwich for eample – whe the whole place was rocking. It’s always gonna be a performance based thing Jimbo
COYI Sing Your Heart Out! Its Now or too late!
There used to be a hardcore of voices in the North and South stands at UP that would sing a variety of (often funny) songs throughout games, whether we were winning or losing, playing well or badly. It was a joy to be a part of.
Those voices cannot be heard anymore. We have two chants and no originality. Charlton and Palace could teach us a thing or two. Their fans haven’t turned into Billy Big B****** and have kept things real. Kudos to them.
Instead, at West Ham, those once-glorious voices have switched to forums like this, where they’re used to ***** and moan about the current state of affairs, due to a cosmic shift in expectation and resulting disappointment.
I don’t care where we play. The singing wasn’t down to Upton Park, it was down to the people. The same people who now stand there, cross-armed with grimaces on their faces because hey, the world is a grumpy place and trying to lift it with some joyous chanting and singing is yesterday’s news. Sad times.
Mate the north and south bank went years and years ago. The fans are behind the players. Most grounds nowadays the atmosphere is not great at all. There are a few exceptions of course. It is what it is,
The fans have been superb over the last ten years. It is time the manager and the players raised their performance. Seems Moyes is readying himself to blame disharmony for relegation, when the disharmony has not even started inside the ground.
nonsense
So has there been disharmony in the ground – no
Have the results been poor – yes
Was the manager to blame for poor subs vs Brighton – Yes
Were defence so bad because of crowd vs Brighton – no
So why is my response nonsense. It is not the fans causing the negativity or poor performances. The crowd have backed the team. Seem to recall the likes of GSB and family making more comments about players than us fans
We will all protest on 29th. Outside the stadium. Let’s hope the team actually turn up as well on the day inside the stadium. And that Moyes has some more bottle in his tactics
Couldn’t agree more . Time to stop all the negativity and shove some dynamite 🧨 up their backsides , figuratively of course . And the only way we can do that is by shouting and screaming at them for 90mins . Shouting and screaming and Singing is to support them in our hour of need . The players need backing and encouraging .
He is probably right that a lot of refs will be swayed by the crowd as they don’t like being yelled at. Some actually enjoy is because they can then show what tough geezers they are by going against the crowd (yes looking at you Mike Dean). But a lot of the crucial ones are now being taken far away by the VAR . God knows what influences their decisions.
Problem is you can shout and sing your heart out a lot more easily when you are seeing something dynamic and positive on the pitch. Back in the Great Escape we had Tevez terrorising defences and he lifted others and they together lifted the crowd. Chickens and eggs again I guess.
These days crowds are not as vocal. In spite of what Sky tries to tell us in most grounds the fans get fed up when things go wrong. I think Selhurst Park probably makes the most noise, allowing for the size of the crowd, in the PL. But their home record this season is one of the worst. Quite a few teams now do as well away as at home and the points advantage in the PL overall has got smaller. So it’s probably easy to overrate the role of the crowd. But what else can we do but try. It can’t do any harm can it?
Good point about Selhurst park not contributing to good home results.I have been the last 4 seasons and once you take away the PA ‘Glad all over ‘ I don’t think the atmo there is anything special.
