Former Hammer could return to Newcastle

|

Former Hammer Andy Carroll could be a Newcastle United player by the end of today a number of reports have claimed today. Newcastle sold Carroll for £35m January 2011 to Liverpool who eventually sold him on to West Ham for £17m

Now on deadline day morning, multiple sources say that talks have been held and both sides want the deal to happen.

“Newcastle United are believed to be in discussions over move for Andy Carroll today. Not done yet. Checks on his fitness going on. But Carroll eager for it to happen.’ said Lee Ryder from Newcastle Chronicle.

Craig Hope from the Daily Mail said “I’m told Andy Carroll to NUFC is more likely to happen than not & player desperate to rejoin hometown club.’

Scott Wilson from Northern Echo added:

‘Even though he can sign outside the window, I think the preference is for it to be resolved one way or the other today.’

As a free agent now, Andy Carroll could be signed any time, so the 5pm deadline doesn’t apply to him.

However, the various reports state that both club and player want to get the deal done and dusted today, if it is going to happen.

Carroll is said to be happy to take a wage cut (although technically his current wage is zero as he left West Ham over five weeks ago..) and Newcastle’s main concern is being reassured that the striker is physically ok, having recovered from his most recent injury. Only 17 transfer windows later, each of them claiming he could come back, this time it could be the reality.”

He’s an injured free agent. Why would Newcastle hurry to pay him a wage when they can sign him at any point after he “regains his fitness”?
