Frustration with London Stadium catering

|

West Ham supporters are becoming more frustrated at the price, quality and availability of food at the London Stadium on match days.

The catering is provided by American company Delaware North but complaints have swamped social media since the return of fans after lockdown.

At the last home game against Manchester United, early-bird offers were advertised by the club until 1.15 pm to entice people to come early but those special offers were stopped at 12.45 pm just 45 minutes after the turnstiles opening.

Availability is also a problem with a lack of real ale or bitter in some areas of the stadium and no Guinness is to be found anywhere

Food often sells out early showing their forecasting of demand is woefully wrong and that is repeated week after week.

When food is available it is overpriced and poor in quality with supporters claiming the pictures of the food do not resemble what is served up.

West Ham’s concessionaire agreement says they must match other comparable London clubs in terms of quality and pricing of food and drink.

In the 2o21 London Stadium survey, we asked earlier this year

What is your view on the quality, choice and price of food and drink within the London Stadium?

Excellent 2% Good 14% Average 40% Poor 44%

This is something the London Stadium owners, their catering partners and the club need to work on.

First of all let me say I can’t comment on the quality of food or beer at the LS because I know that if I chose to eat or drink there, just as at any other entertainment venue, I will be overcharged in comparison to more traditional outlets such as cafes or pubs.

But I do find it somewhat contradictory that if the quality is poor, as has been stated, it sells out so quickly that the caterers appear to have underestimated demand. Isn’t the best way to ensure you get decent service at a fair price to refuse to buy if you feel you aren’t getting value for money ?
