Hammers back in for striker

|

ayewWest Ham are back on the trail of Swansea’s Andre Ayew but Swansea chairman Huw Jenkins is unimpressed with our opening offer of £15 million.

Rumours have been circulating of our interest for the last 24 hours and we have had it confirmed by a source close to the club that the Irons have renewed the interest they first displayed last summer.

The Welsh club are ready to let the player move on and there is interest from Chelsea and Liverpool when the Ghanain first become available from Marseilles.

RR ModerateWe were told this evening: “The Irons have been back in for the player but there suggested £15 million was of no interest to Jenkins who also has interest from Chelsea and Liverpool.”

The 26 year old managed 12 goals for the Swans last season and can play through the middle or wide on the left.

The Hammers have also rejected the possibility of moving for Croatian Mario Mandzukic for whom Juventus would listen to offers of around £23 million.

Is this our “20 goal a season striker”? If so I’m a little underchuffed! Would sooner bank the readies and wait till the winter transfer window tbh.

We’ve been linked to Jordan ayew as well today, that rags hack probably got the wrong end of the stick though. Personally I think we should star clear of both and 23 million is rediculous for manducich just because they’ve had their pants pulled down for Higuain doesn’t mean they should expect to make a profit on a player who has failed there

Neither of the Ayew’s please they are not much better than average and they both demand high salaries, just wait until we can get a player that will be an upgrade.

      +1.
Looking at the game tonight, I’m also starting to think a RB is a more important purchase, as Antonio isn’t the answer.

Yep Frankie indeed, although I believe Byram is good enough to fill that position, he is not the finished article but he knows when to defend and when to go forward, if Collins and Oggy are next to him then its the left back position which is more important. In honesty Reid can play left back although he isn’t the best as we all remember but he surely has to be better than Antonio as a right back, then we could also play Byram at right back and Nordveit in his best position as a defensive midfielder, he looks like a player that reads the game well. I don’t know why Slav didn’t bring Fletcher on tonight and any of the other subs because we looked leggy from about 55 mins onwards.

Why are people saying wait until January or until “better” players come along? Nobody sells their best players in January and if you haven’t noticed, all the “better” players said no! The Ayews are very good footballers and 12 goals from a winger is anything but average! Between them they scored 19 so there’s your twenty goals a season.

Although agree we do need a right back and a left back. And another attacking mid (which in theory A Ayew could be).

djsteves imho Andre Ayew plays in the same role as Feghouli / Antonio / Tore we certainly don’t need him, as for Jordan he was awful for most of the season for Villa and lacks the experience plus he has a very poor temperament especially when the game is going against his team. Some clubs do sell their best players in January if they are out of the running for their major competitions plus we also have the chance to see players at lesser teams who are either in form or have the potential in a better team to be great, we are not an established team so we need to get up and coming players at least thats how I see it but we all have our own opinions 🙂

I get what you’re saying and you’re right, everyone is entitled to their opinion. For me, waiting until Jan could mean that it is us that is out of the running for the comps though. I also think we could do a lot worse than the Ayews. I’d be hesitant to judge Jordan just yet. His elbow on Cress was inexcusable, but he was playing in an abysmal side so it’s no wonder he wasn’t in the best frame of mind. Compared to most of the villa team he at least had a bit of fight, as misplaced as it was. We saw what a manager who believes in you and a great atmosphere in the dressing room did for Payet last year, so I think he could potentially also be very good for us. They might not be the final solution but I think they could do an excellent job for us and help the club push on to become a top established team. I certainly would have been happy to see them on the pitch tonight.
