West Ham escaped dropping into the bottom three this afternoon by the skin of their teeth.
Result just about worked out in their favour and despite Swansea scoring an incredible 5-4 victory over Alan Pardew’s struggling Palace, that wasn’t enough to drag the Irons further down.
Hull City managed a 1-1 draw with West Brom which put them on the same 11 points as us and the south Londoners whilst Sunderland slipped to the foot of the table via a 2-0 defeat at Liverpool.
A win at Old Trafford could lift the Hammers to 13th place dependent on Stoke’s result but a draw would do little more than take them above Palace.
Given our shocking goal difference we would need to settle for that a position behind Middlesborough unless there was a Hammers goal scoring avalanche at OT.
I would like to win what is essentially the league cup,but we don’t need it.What we do need is to keep our Prem. status.
That headline statement means nothing, only that if we avoid a heavy defeat, we won’t drop into the bottom three after 13 games.
I’d settle for surviving this year, the feeling I have is similar to the times we have been relegated.
We need a bit of Luck to kick start our season. COYI
Even at the Top of the table teams rely on other results from time to time to maintain Thier position or at very least stay in European contention .
The problem with being in the Bottom group of half a dozen is that you need to perform well and hope others perform badly . But , hoping for others to slip up is a pretty dire situation to be in .
A win today at OT would be sensational but , all we can realistically hope for is a strong performance and see where it gets us . Plus we need the EFL cup so a strong team should be put out for that as well . Not easy by any stretch .
It’s poor performances having to rely on other teams’ results to stay out of the relegation zone and then only just.
