Hammers set to miss out on La Liga star

|

West Ham look set to miss out on Jon Moncayola after the  La Liga midfielder signed a  ten-year contract at Osasuna.

I am very happy to continue here and tremendously happy with this renewal for so many years,” Moncayola told Osasuna’s official website.

My preference has always been to continue here. The club has a very solid project in mind and I wanted to be part of it.

The 23-year-old  previously had a €12 million (£10.3 million) release clause in his contract with the La Liga club according to AS.

In late May it was reported in Spain that both West Ham and Crystal Palace were tracking the youngster with a view to summer bids that would meet his release clause.

Moncayola completed his second season with the Osasuna senior team, helping them to 11th place in La Liga. The left-footed midfielder played in 36 of their 38 league games, including 28 starts. In that time, he provided two goals and earned some caps for the Spain under-21 team.

Whether he was ever really a target is another story.
