How we rated the Irons v Arsenal

|

Hugh hands out the marks as we sink to a third successive defeat

Fabianski: Very impressive again despite the three goals – some great saves. Top buy at £7 million 7

Fredericks: Strong going forward and some good runs whilst by and large looking after his defensive duties 6

Balbuena: He looked more the part today but the odd shaky moment. He’s getting there 6

Diop: Nightmare debut when making a horrible clearance to ensure the second critical goal 4

Masuaku: Defended well when he needed to and got forward at every opportunity 6

Sanchez: Fine debut – looks exactly what we need in the centre of midfield. An enforcer who can find some serious passes as well. Enjoyed that 7

Wilshere: Flitted around the edges of the game without ever influencing too much. More needed Jack 5

Antonio: Did well with some fierce running down flank and nearly converted a fine curling effort 6

Snodgrass: He may be marmite but I love him. So much industry and plenty of skill and guile 7

Anderson: Got better and better as the game went on and was perhaps reaching his peak towards the end. Some terrific runs and crossing. Beginning to see why we paid the fee 8

Arnautovic: Taken off second half after a knock – pray it wasn’t serious because there was a real wind down soon after – took goal really well 7

Subs:

Perez: Missed a sitter laid on by Anderson near the end 3

Chicharito: Big asked for this guy to follow Arnie in one up role – nothing happened 4

Yarmolonko: Very early days but could have done better with more bravery at attempoting to convert Anderson cross – needs game time 4

A little harsh on Diop, but everyone sees the game differently I suppose.
A much improved performance (not difficult after the first 2 games, I know), but still massively disappointing as the arse were pretty poor imo and were certainly there for the taking.
Wolves has now become a game we REALLY need to get something from, as I can’t see us getting too much from the 3 games after.
Must admit, I’m getting a little worried now.

Diop looked comfortable and in control until the sliced clearance which resulted in his own-goal. I hope he’ll be given another chance in the mid-week cup game.

Anderson finally came off his shackles with encouraging runs and through balls.

Wilshere has continued to disappoint (to put it mildly) – slow and ponderous when he was supposed to run the midfield. A real worry.

Chicharito needs the ball in the box or he’ll be simply be missing in action, which he was today.

Any rating on Yarmolenko? He looked lively but needed game time.

Despite the loss, I’m very pleased with the squads progress. There’s a lot of quality, and they longer they play together, the better we’ll be. That give and go between Anderson and Arnie was brilliant. We’ve got work to do, but I see it coming together, eventually. 3 points from Wolves is a must..

Cheers Hugh, for the work you do keeping us all informed. So sorry to here about your wife, you have my sincere condolences.

Good ratings overall Hugh, a much more positive team selection, liked Sanchez and Anderson in the midfield but I have to say Wilshere was by far the worse player on the pitch for us. I have to say I was delighted to see the team with the exception of Fredericks but to be fair he did ok today. I thought our front 4 all did well and with two mobile midfielders in there they will even do better, Wilshere has played 3 games and played poorly in all three games. How many more games do we have to lose before he is dropped. Sanchez was the big plus today and Anderson was a delight to watch in the 10 role and Antonio gives us so much power and pace. I would love Pelle to consider a 3-5-2 system as I think it would really suit us. Perez was poor on the left side, Pelle should have moved Anderson out there and put Perez in at 10. Perez is not a wide player.

Agree with the ratings and most comments. Arsenal fans must be laughing at us for taking Wiltshire and Perez – thought that both were poor yesterday – Antonio did well tracking back to support Masuaku – but Perez hardly tracked back at all – and did almost nothing on attack either

Anderson was much better – and carried a threat all game, while after all the negative comments when he signed, Sanchez was a revelation

Hopefully Declan Rice will get a run out in the league cup midweek – we then really need to get some points (hopefully three) against Wolves

Wilshere May have been poor yesterday and Perez did miss an easy chance to Work Cech but they are still finding their feet as the others are, it’s a long season we are improving every game, on the highlights it looked like Fredericks made some good tackles hopefully we can do well against Wimbledon and get some confidence for Wolves COYI!!!
