ClaretandHugh’s associate editor Sean Whetstone has taken a look at our remaining games and come to a brave conclusion on how many points we will collect by the end of the season… read on!
West Ham have now hit the magical total of 40 points at the weekend, we would usually be sighing with relief at this point, content that we have survived in the Premier League for another season.
But this year under Slaven Bilic the expectations are different after 26 games; anything lower than eighth place would be a a major disappointment with many still talking about the possibility of top four or six finish once Sakho and Lanzini are firing on all cylinders again. We are also just 180 minutes away from an FA Cup semi final at Wembley in April and another 90 minutes beyond that from possible FA Cup final in May. But let’s not get carried away.
Apart from our cup game against Blackburn on Saturday we have just twelve league games remaining this season. These are my predictions and possible points total at the end of the season. If it is good enough for Mark Lawrenson it’s good enough for us.
My estimate is twenty six points from the twelve remaining games to take us a magical 66 points this season. That would have been enough to grab fifth place from Spurs last season who finished on 64 points. We finished twelfth on 47 points last season. We can almost guarantee we will pass that points total.
West Ham v Sunderland Home win over Sam (3 points)
West Ham v Spurs Home draw 2-2 (1 point)
Everton v West Ham Away win (3 points)
West Ham v Watford Home win (3 points)
Chelsea v West Ham Away loss (0 points)
West Ham v Crystal place Home win (3 points)
West Ham v Arsenal Home draw (1 point)
Leicester City v West Ham Away loss (0 points)
West Ham v Manchester United home win (3 points)
West Brom v West Ham away win (3 points)
West Ham v Swansea Last home win ever at the Boleyn Ground (3 points)
Stoke v West Ham away win (3 points)
I reckon 12 points and around 8th place, which at the start of the season I’d have been quite happy with. I’ll settle for that if we also focus on the FA Cup and continue to give that a real go!
I am in the 18 – 20 point brigade but I hope you are right Sean 🙂
Allardyce was right, you are Deluded.
no more than 20 points which still beats our previous best record of 57.
main thing is we should for the first time ever score more than we concede, who knew attacking football could be so fun.
Looking at that I’m thinking 18 points will be possible
Just reading on Twitter – Talksport’s ‘Super Computer’ predicting West Ham to finish 9th on 54 points!
I reckon a final total in the range of 51-54 points – and 8th/10th position in the League – that would have been a brilliant season for Bilic and would set us up nicely to go into the Olympic Stadium – with the addition of a couple of quality players expected – can’t wait!
I love your optimism Sean, and genuinely hope you are right, but I’m thinking more like 13 points, taking us to 53 and 8th!!! With a decent cup run to boot. All in all, an improvement over the previous regime, and great foundation for next year – add to that a 20 GPS striker to supplement our broad array of scoring talent and we will be set for a good start at the OS – COYI
Whilst i hope you are right Sean i believe it will more like a 58 point total this season . Can’t see us winning 8 out of 12 based on our recent record . But you never know !
I’ll have a pint of whatever your drinking Sean… lol
Spurs, Everton, MU. and Stoke too optimistic. The rest reasonable..
I think you need to take into account more, that every team will be pushing to the limit down the stretch and teams like Stoke and Everton have always derailed us. I also believe MU will be desperate not to finish lower than 5th.
Still, in the end it will come down to injuries in all teams and if we can keep our first team injury free, then our chances rise dramatically because players like Payet, Lanzini and Sakho have a huge, almost disproportionate, effect on us
Blimey Sean you’re a tad more confident than I am …

I am banking on the return of Lanzini and Sakho will give us a second wind
