Johnson on Dyche’s radar

|

Everton are reportedly interested in signing West Ham United’s utility defender Ben Johnson.

According to a reports which began to emerge last night, Everton are looking to bolster their defensive options with the signing of the West Ham graduate before the transfer window closes at 11 pm tonight.

It is believed that newly appointed Toffee’s boss Sean Dyche, is a huge admirer of Johnson who can play as a full-back on both flanks as well as central defence.

The defender is contracted to The Hammers until the summer of 2024, but he has been unable to agree a contract extension with the club. The stalemate is consistent with the recent trend, with the club seemingly unable to agree long-term contracts with its academy graduates.

The 23-year-old has been given precious little game time by David Moyes recently, and the last time he started a Premier League game was in October last year. A transfer to Everton could give him the opportunity to play more regularly, however it’s unlikely the Hammers gaffer would sanction such a move.

Why is it that all managers and clubs see us as a feeder to their senior sides but DM hardly sees them as a starter in our senior side?
