Ratings Two – how I saw the Irons v United

|

Hugh hands out his marks

Fabianski: When all is lost you know the top man will come up trumps one great save from Maguire. He was entirely sound when required beyond that -which wasn’t often 7

Fredericks: He’s certainly grown into the squad over the early games – sound on the right side again 7

Diop: Some brilliant tackles and retrieving interventions – occasionally pulled around but generally on the case against a lack lustre attack 7

Ogbonna: Looks the part – not a foot wrong all afternoon. 7

Cresswell: Right back to his best and a fabulous goal from the free kick.  Defended well and made sure Arthur will be looking over his shoulder for Bournemouth 7.5

Rice: Excellent display. Right back to the top of his form – serious quality from the young man 8

Noble: Official man of the match. Lucky with one studs up tackle which could have got a red but apart from that outstanding. Always wanting the ball and trying to make it happen in midfield 8

Yarmolenko: Wonderful goal and starting to show his game after a season’s lay-off. He looks exciting and came off early to get his applause which was thoroughly deserved 8

Fornals: It was good to see him getting on the pace of the game towards the end after a slow start. It will take a little time but that we didn’t really miss Manu Lanzini speaks well for him 6.5

Anderson: Terrific performance from the Brazilian – all the tricks, nutmegs and dribbling skills were there but would love him to have a pop now and again 7.5

Haller: Yet another fine leading line job in the thankless one-up role. What you see is what you get game from the striker and it’s very good to watch 7

Subs

Zaba: Came on late for Fredericks and did a great jobs as usual 6.5

Wilshere: Decent. Clear he knows he has a battle for a place on his hands and made a case for himself 6.5

Snodgrass: One with two minutes left No rating

A good performance and thank you hugh for giving Nobes the correct mark his performance today deserved. Ratings are subjective but for Niall to give Haller a 5 and Nobes a 6 didn’t make sense to me. We look a lot more solid this season since Watford onwards..let’s keep it going..

Haller lived on scraps again but did an amazing job of holding the ball up and laying it off. I don’t think we made him one decent scoring chance but he still plugs away. a 7 is what he earned.

Watched the whole game back on tv last night. Can we give a rating to Sky? If so 2/10 being generous. There were two teams playing but you would have thought only one. Guess which? The pre match focus was on Man U. Ok. Then on comes Neville at the start of the game to tell us that our standout player last season is headed to Old Trafford. The rest of the game passed to the background sound of a long whine about how poor united were. Neville repeated about three times that they had spent £900m ‘for this’ and would need to spend another £500m to restore them to their rightful place. No explanation of how a club which has spent much less but was outplaying them. No mention of how that club might be able to progress with less than half the dosh that United will have. Excuse the French but that was a bloody disgrace.
