Report: Hammers could be tempted by Arnautovic offer

|

Inter Milan are ready to test West Ham’s resolve to keep Marko Arnautovic claims the Sun today.

The report says new Inter boss Antonio Conte sees the 30-year-old  as a summer target suggesting that West Ham may now be tempted to take £30m for the hitman, who cost them £21m from Stoke in 2017.

The story says Arnautovic, who signed a new £120,000-a-week three-year deal in January, would relish a return to former club Inter, although the Italians could face competition from Serie A rivals Roma.

Arnautovic spent a season on loan with the Serie A side in the 2009-10 campaign while Jose Mourinho was boss.

We are highly doubtful of these claims on a number of fronts.  Arnautovic is building a new house to his own design in the UK and has made it known he is happy to stay a Hammer next season and fight for his place. Manuel Pellegrini has also publicly said how important Arnie is to the team next season. Finally, with Andy Carroll and Lucas Perez now gone and Javier Hernandez on the verge of a departure, it seems crazy to imagine that the club would sanction an exit for just £30m knowing they must find a number of striker replacements with a limited budget. Sorry, we are not buying this story!

If anything over 25m comes in we should bite their hands off. 30 years old and a disruptive influence, use the money from his sale to bring in a young player on his way up.

That said, I doubt Inter are interested. The Sun hasn’t got the greatest reputation for telling the truth.

Cobswallop… we supposedly turned £45m down in January & gave him an improved contract, no way would we accept less now. To replace him (at his best) would cost £55m+.
I know every player has his price but £30m isn’t his, we can’t allow the entire front line leave in one go, what would that say about the club..? We are a feeder club to anyone with a few quid.
We are kept being told to think like a big club, it’s about time we put that into place.

Big clubs know when to sell to make the most from their investment then use the money to improve the squad. Arnautovic probably never was a 50m player. Were he 26, perhaps but he reached that level too late and showed that there are other characteristics he has that decrease his value significantly. He’s not a prolific striker and we have strength in wide positions. Luka Jovic is 21 and knocking them in for fun, a true striker going for 50-60m, Haller would probably cost 40-50m and is 24. A 10m net spend to get a better player 6 years younger is pretty good business. I’m not sure why some have such a distorted view of Marko.
